[[{“value”:”

The following contains major spoilers for Spider-Woman #6, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Jessica Drew is headed for one of the biggest fights of her life. And this time her opponent is also one of Carol Danvers’ biggest problems.

Spider-Woman #6 opens to find a lone gas station attendant’s day at work interrupted by the sudden appearance of a real-life superhero. At least, that is how things appear until Star’s temper flares up, revealing the abject villain that has always been lurking just beneath the surface of her high-flying facade.

Ripley Ryan made her first appearance in the pages of 2019’s Captain Marvel #1 by writer Kelly Thompson and artist Carmen Carnero. At the time, Ripley was an otherwise ordinary reporter working for “Ms.” Magazine. When an interview with the titular hero went awry, Ripley was kidnapped by the Nuclear Man, giving her a far deeper look at the lives of heroes and villains than she had hoped.

Eventually, Ripley decided to embark on such a life for herself by volunteering to be a subject in the Kree scientist Minn-Erva’s experiments. When this didn’t imbue Ripley with the powers she was looking for, she turned to another procedure that allowed her to siphon away Carol Danvers’ powers. Over the months that followed, Ripley reinvented herself as Star, a moniker that she believed would embody her self-proclaimed greatness and the heights to which she soared. Instead, a series of defeats left Star using her powers to pull off minor robberies rather than making any major impact as a hero or villain.

The new Ultimate Marvel Universe is pitting two Wakandan icons against each other — and there is no telling what the cost of their battle will be.

Not long after Ripley’s debut as Star, it was revealed that she had not only stolen some of Carol’s abilities but that she had also somehow fused with one of the Infinity Stones. As the living host to the Reality Stone, Ripley is capable of reshaping the world around her on its most basic levels, not to mention in ways that are nearly incomprehensible even to her. Unsurprisingly, these feats take a great deal of effort and energy, leaving Ripley vulnerable after the fact should she have to push her powers to their limits.
