The X-Men‘s Storm will debut an all-new costume in the second issue of her ongoing solo series. Marvel has released covers and concept art that show the iconic mutant’s new look.
Storm’s new costume is designed by Lucas Werneck, the artist for the Storm comic series written by Murewa Ayodele. Werneck’s art shows the X-Men’s Storm looking regal in the new suit, which is primarily white with gold accents and a bold ‘S’-shaped lightning bolt on her chest, re-imagining her classic silver suit. The costume also features a beautifully ornate headpiece and gold lightning bolt earrings befitting Marvel’s most electrifying mutant. Marvel has teased that Storm will “debut a variety of bold looks” throughout the new story as it continues. The new Storm ongoing solo series kicks off on Oct. 2, and the issue with her new look arrives on Nov. 20.

The new Storm series on sale next week begins with Storm diving headfirst into a potential nuclear meltdown. As her saga continues, she will catch the attention (and admiration) of powerful cosmic forces like Oblivion and Doctor Doom. Marvel has teased that, in order to face such powerful threats, Storm will don a variety of memorable costumes including armor, cosmically-charged suits and “plenty of high-fashion out-of-costume attire worthy of a goddess”.
Lucas Werneck discussed his inspirations for the new costume in Marvel’s press release. “Fashion is always one of the many tools that I reach for when looking for inspiration,” Werneck said. “You can tell so much about a character through their clothes, and this kind of visual narrative is something that I love. Now you can imagine how excited I was when Marvel gave me the opportunity and space to work with the fashion of such an iconic character like Ororo.”
Marvel Reveals an X-Force Member Who Wasn’t Supposed to Be on the Team
Marvel’s new X-Force lineup has one member who was never supposed to be a part of the team — and not everyone is convinced she belongs there.
“I’m really trying to give her a sense of style,” he continued. “I imagine her having this kind of goddess aura, but she also has so much humanity in her, so the challenge here is to translate all of the aspects that define her in the way she dresses, moves, talks—the way that she lives. I’m having so much fun, and I hope that the fans enjoy all the tiny details that we’re building for her along with all the surprises that we cooking in this series.”
Storm #1 goes on sale Oct. 2 from Marvel Comics, and fans can check out Storm’s new outfit in issue two on Nov. 20.
