X-Men: Magik Goes Demon Hunting in New Marvel Solo Series

[[{“value”:”

The X-Men‘s mystical mutant Magik will defend the world from demonic threats in a new ongoing comic series. Marvel has revealed new covers and character art for the series, launching in January 2025.

The new series, written by Ashley Allen and featuring art by German Peralta, will see the sorcerer mutant unleash her magical Soulsword, spells and other tools in her arsenal as she faces mystical threats targeting the mutant community in the X-Men’s new era, From the Ashes. Marvel teases that Magik will also be forced to come to terms with her tragic backstory, as Ilyana Rasputina learns how to control her demonic Darkchylde persona. She’s been suppressing her Darkchylde form for years, but it will offer her more strength and power — at a cost. Magik #1 goes on sale Jan. 8.

Earlier this year, Magik returned and reunited with her best friend, Kate Pryde, during the Fall of the House of X story, and her new adventures will see her go out on her own. Marvel’s solicit for the issue teases the demons Ilyana will hunt in her own series. “The X-Man Illyanna Rasputina strikes out on her own with new allies and dark powers arrayed against her. Something ancient has awakened beneath the Alaskan ice. Unfortunately for it, that’s Magik’s territory now!”

Magik Must Face Her Demons in New Solo Adventures

Writer Ashley Allen and artist German Peralta spoke about creating Magik’s new adventures in Marvel’s press release announcing the new series. Allen, who wrote the character earlier this year in X-Men: Blood Hunt – Magik, said: “I’m beyond excited to be returning to write Illyana! Supernatural stories featuring characters with hearts of gold are my favorite, so this series has been a dream to write! I can’t wait for readers to experience the adventure we take Magik on to slay some demons … and maybe accept some of her own.”

Marvel brings back the Crypt of Shadows — and this time around it is Agatha Harkness who leads the way through its hauntingly hallowed halls.

Peralta shared what it was like designing the visuals for the series, with Magik and her massive sword hunting demons at the forefront of the story. “I am very excited about this project,” Peralta said. “Magik is a character with an incredible background, surrounded by darkness and mystery. Additionally, she is visually spectacular in all her versions, and I personally love Chris Bachalo’s design. I really enjoy drawing action scenes, as well as emotionally-driven scenes, and Ashley Allen writes a super intriguing script, where she balances both of these types of situations, making my job even more fun than it already is. I mean, what artist wouldn’t love to draw Magik with her great sword facing all kinds of demons?”
