Wolverine’s latest comic book title has just ushered in a whole new threat to the entire Marvel Universe.
During an outing through the wilds of the Savage Land with a band of natives, the titular hero of Wolverine: Revenge #1 finds himself face-to-face with none other than Nick Fury. As it turns out, Fury has come to call on Wolverine’s help in saving the world from a threat that the mutant hero doesn’t even know exists. Soon enough, Wolverine is standing alongside a host of other Marvel heroes, all of whom are desperate to put the world back together after a global EMP caused by the destruction of Magneto’s Asteroid M knocked out nearly all electronics across the planet.

Introduced back in 1964’s X-Men #5 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Asteroid M is the name given to nearly every single iteration of Magneto’s orbiting space station. The original Asteroid M was developed as a home base for Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, though it was soon destroyed by the X-Men. Following its destruction, the first Asteroid M crashed down in the ocean just off the coast of San Francisco, eventually becoming the short-lived mutant homeland known as Utopia.
In the new timeline of Wolverine: Revenge, Asteroid M exploded just over Quebec, resulting in an electromagnetic pulse that knocked out power seemingly across the globe. The incident also claimed millions of lives and reduced the number of S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarriers from twenty to three. It also left the world’s heroes with a severe lack of resources. To combat the threat, Fury has assembled a team consisting of iconic S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Maria Hill, Dum-Dum Dugan, and Clay Quartermain alongside Wolverine, Captain America, and the Winter Soldier.
Carnage Infiltrates One of Marvel’s Deadliest Companies in Venom War
Marvel’s most infamous serial killer symbiote joins Venom War as the latest member of one of the world’s deadliest companies.
The events of Wolverine: Revenge bear a moderate resemblance to those of 2021’s Dark Ages by Tom Taylor and Iban Coello, which saw the world similarly thrown into darkness due to a global EMP unleashed by a dangerous cosmic entity known as the Unmaker. When a team of the Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes take the fight to the Unmaker, they prove capable of quelling the threat it poses, though only by setting off the same blast that utterly annihilates any semblance of electronics or digitized technology across the globe. Apart from causing the deaths of millions of people who were dependent on technology at the time of the Unmaker’s defeat, this immediately ended the lives of synthezoids such as the Vision, as well.

Wolverine
Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180, where he battled the Jade Giant to a standstill, before joining Marvel’s X-Men in 1975. Since then, the short-tempered berserker with unbreakable claws has proven himself as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. The mutant hero was also the backbone of the X-Men film franchise, which ran from 2000 to 2020, and critics consider his solo film, Logan, one of the best superhero movies ever made.
Known as an unstoppable tank who can cut through anything, Wolverine isn’t technically one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes but he’s one of the deadliest characters on their roster. Even villains like Magneto and the Juggernaut have learned to be wary of Wolverine’s claws.
