Each of these budding young mutants’ powers are laid out for readers in the form of Cerebro Scan pages outlining not only their mutant abilities but their origin stories as well. The upcoming issue will also bring readers back to the once-hallowed halls of the X-Mansion, which has become a mutant prison under the command of Doctor Corina Ellis and her second in command, Captain Ezra. Among those currently imprisoned by the villains is Theresa Cassidy, better known as Siryn, who follows in her father Banshee’s footsteps with her supersonic scream.
Series writer Gail Simone previously opened up about how each of these new characters’ powers are inspired and informed by real-world “hidden disabilities.” As for which characters she has enjoyed exploring the most, Simone noted that “Everyone is my favorite while I’m writing them, this is why it’s been so fun to write this.” While each of the currently ongoing core X-Men titles has been given a distinctly different tone, Simone’s Uncanny X-Men, set in New Orleans, has been described as taking on a “Southern Gothic” sentiment amidst all the explosive action and sprawling set pieces.
One of Spider-Man’s Oldest Enemies Is Still as Bad as Ever
The world of Spider-Man: Reign is about to meet a whole new breed of Venom, and this time, their connection to Peter Parker is personal.
The first issue of Uncanny X-Men, released on August 7, brought together the series’ core cast of Wolverine, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and team leader Rogue to face off against the ancient Asgardian dragon known as Sadurang. Making his debut in the pages of 2019’s Tony Stark: Iron Man #2 by Gail Simone and Paolo Villanelli, Sadurang initially took up arms alongside the Dark Elf Malekith. Although Sadurang was ultimately defeated by Iron Man, he would return barely a year later to terrorize the heroes of Marvel’s Savage Avengers, who at the time included two X-Icons in the forms of Magik and the Juggernaut.
Uncanny X-Men #2 is on sale September 11 from Marvel Comics.
