The X-Men Just Helped a Dangerous New Mutant Fake His Own Death

The following contains major spoilers for X-Men #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
The X-Men have just saved the life of another young mutant in need by faking his seemingly horrifying death.
X-Men #2 finds the eponymous team making their way to San Francisco, which has come under fire from an invading armada of alien ships. At least, that is how things seem, yet in truth, this is all the unwitting doing of Ben, a scared young mutant who cannot control his own powers of manifestation. When all hope seems lost, Ben is apparently engulfed in the full might of his powers, ending his life on the spot. Of course, just as with the alien invaders, this isn’t what it seems, as he was actually whisked away by the very same X-Men who are still carrying out their mission to save him from himself.
Marvel’s New Uncanny X-Men are Up Against a Mythical Threat
The latest lineup of Uncanny X-Men arrive on the scene of their first mission — and it means going up against a classic draconic threat.

The new ongoing X-Men series from writer Jed MacKay and artist Ryan Stegman is one of several that have made their debut as part of Marvel Comics’ From the Ashes event. Each of these series follows its own unique team of mutant heroes as they make a place for themselves in a post-Krakoan world. Among these titles are X-Factor by writer Mark Russell and artist Bob Quinn, Uncanny X-Men by writer Gail Simone and artist David Marquez, X-Force by writer Geoffrey Thorne and artist Marcus To, and the eponymous team of NYX by writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and artist Francesco Mortarino.
Alongside the debuts of these new X-Men series comes the launch of Marvel Comics’ series of QR code-enabled “bonus pages.” In response to fan concerns regarding the move, X-Men editor Tom Brevoort explained, “[It] was a bonus page to begin with, an extra page—we didn’t scale back the contents of X-MEN #1 in order to do it. And it gave us a page whose contents we could conceal until the day of release, thus avoiding any early spoilers.”
Marvel’s New X-Factor is Just Getting Started and They’re Failing
Marvel’s new X-Factor lineup is one of the best of all time, but that isn’t keeping people from hating them for taking on the roles they have now.
While X-Men introduced new mutant characters, the very same thread is playing out in the pages of Uncanny X-Men. In a preview for the series’ upcoming second issue, fans can get a sneak peek at four upcoming additions to the Marvel Universe. Each has powers inspired by real-world “hidden disabilities” as noted by writer Gail Simone. Among these budding young mutants are Calico (Becca Constance-Pinette), Deathdream (Hotoru), Jitter (Sofia Yong) and Ransom (Valentin Correa).
