The Battle For Springfield Begins in the G.I. Joe First Look

[[{“value”:”

The last few issues of G.I. Joe: A Real America Hero, Skybound Entertainment’s epic continuation of Larry Hama’s iconic run on the series (which started over 40 years and over 300 issues ago) has been leading up to the Battle for Springfield as part of the Cobra Civil War, and the cold war has now gotten very hot in this first look preview of next month’s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #309.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #309 is from writer Larry Hama (natch), artists Paul Pelletier and Tony Kordos, colorist Francesco Segala, and letterer Pat Brosseau, and it sees the Cobra Civil War finally make its way to the seemingly ideal suburban landscape that is Springfield, the secret home of Cobra Commander’s faction of Cobra. Serpentor Khan has successfully mutated half the Cobra forces, and now a squadron of genetically modified cyborgs has been dropped on Springfield with the intention of tearing the city apart, and taking Cobra Commander’s still-human forces down. Of course, it just so happens that Dawn “Snake Eyes” Moreno, has parents in Springfield who might have been killed, so G.I. Jo’s Ninja squad was about to enter the city to investigate, and now they’re stuck in the middle of a major invasion.

Skybound has provided CBR with a first look at this upcoming issue, as well as the covers for the issue.

A New G.I. Joe Series Launches in November

The Skybound/Hasbro “Energon Universe” has been setting up the G.I. Joe team, and in November, the team will officially debut in a new ongoing series

What happens in the first look preview pages for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #309?

At the end of the previous issue, the first enhanced cyborgs from Serpentor’s Cobra forces landed in Springfield, but they were shocked to discover that Cobra Commander had been waiting for them, and he was decked out with some very powerful battle armor. He had started blasting the cyborgs at the end of the issue, but he is shocked to learn that they are not phased by the Anti-Tank weapons he and his Vipers had been using.

They switch to armored-piercing shells, but then the cyborgs got over laughing at them, and instead mowed down most of Cobra Commander’s men, and the one of his own explosives seemingly fragged him, but I think we all know that Cobra Commander is not going to be taken out THAT easily.

You’ll have to read the book next month (August 21st, the same week that Destro #3 comes out. We just did a First Look for that, as well) to find out!
