The following contains major spoilers for Superman #16, on sale now from DC Comics.
Lois Lane just stepped into the middle of the war between Amanda Waller and the heroes of the DC Universe.
The titular hero of Superman #16 and some of his greatest allies are busy regrouping within the Fortress of Solitude. Meanwhile, a team consisting of Jimmy Olsen, Silver Banshee, and Lex and Lena Luthor make their way through the ruins of Supercorp back in Metropolis. While the latter group hopes to find some means of striking back against Waller and her Amazo army, a band of her soldiers led by Peacemaker and Peacewrecker interrupt their mission. Fortunately, Jimmy and the others are far from alone, as Lois Lane has stolen one of Lex’s old power suits for herself in a desperate bid to even the odds any way she can.
Superman’s Career as the Man of Steel Brings Major Conflicts
The Man of Steel’s life takes a drastic turn — and it may have major implications for both his job at the Daily Planet and Superman persona.

Despite having no inherent powers of her own, this is far from the first time that fans have seen Lois Lane in action. Like Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane has a long history of gaining short-lived abilities in various Golden and Silver Age comic book titles. She has also been imbued with powers throughout different realities and timelines, and even in the primary DC Universe at certain points. In 2002’s Superman: The Man of Steel #126 by Mark Schultz, Yvel Guichet, and Kevin Sharpe, Lois became the embodiment of the Goddess of Integrity, giving her divine abilities.
Formerly known as LexCorp, the company was rebranded as Supercorp in 2023’s Superman #1 by Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell. The move came shortly after Lex Luthor was imprisoned for his crimes. Lex had hoped that by putting Superman’s iconic symbol atop his own empire, he would effectively force the Man of Steel to work alongside him from afar. While this was indeed the case, Lex also managed to prove that he had changed on some fundamental level along the way.
Absolute Power’s Biggest Threats are Already Beginning to Fall Apart
The best weapons Amanda Waller has against the heroes of the DC Universe might not be built to last, and it’s a major problem for everyone.
Superman #16 ties back into the events of DC Comics’ ongoing Absolute Power event that has seen Amanda Waller declare open war on the superheroes of her world. Not only has Waller unleashed a potent misinformation campaign that painted heroes such as the former members of the Justice League as abject villains, but she also utilized an enhanced army of Amazo androids to steal their powers, seemingly for good. As such, the DC Universe is in short supply of proper defenders, while Waller’s power only grows stronger with every step she takes.
