Spider-Man, Wolverine and More Celebrate Marvel vs Capcom

Marvel is celebrating the imminent arrival of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics by unveiling variant covers drawn by Bengus, the artist responsible for crafting the original Marvel vs. Capcom game’s character designs. The variant covers, featuring Spider-Man, Wolverine, and more, will adorn some of the publisher’s top titles throughout December.

Alongside Spider-Man and Wolverine, Marvel‘s variant covers feature nine more heroes and villains, including Iron Man, Captain America, Cyclops, Doctor Doom, and Thanos. The rest are Storm, Rogue, Psylocke, and Venom. The first wave of Bengus’ Marvel vs. Capcom variant covers will grace All-New Venom #1, Infinity Watch #1, Wolverine #4, X-Men #8, and Avengers #21, available on December 4. Uncanny X-Men #7’s Marvel vs. Capcom variant cover arrives on December 11, preceding the Captain America #16, Fantastic Four #27, and X-Men #9 variants, hitting comic stands on December 18. Finally, the Amazing Spider-Man #64 and Iron Man #3 Marvel vs. Capcom variant covers will arrive on Christmas day.

Capcom, in collaboration with Marvel Games, announced the upcoming game compilation Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics in June. The game commemorates the Marvel vs. Capcom crossover fighting game franchise and comprises seven arcade titles released between 1993 and 2000. The lineup famously includes Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will arrive for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows on September 12 digitally and on November 22 physically and will be released for Xbox One in 2025.

This month, Marvel Studios variant covers, showcasing artwork by Marvel Studios’ Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding, grace several of the publisher’s most popular titles. The Immortal Thor #15 variant debuted last week. Amazing Spider-Man #57 and Avengers Annual #1 will arrive tomorrow. The rest of the lineup includes Incredible Hulk #17, Avengers #18, and Phases of the Moon Knight #2. Two wraparound variant covers for Avengers Assemble #1 and Amazing Spider-Man #58 will also feature.

The variant covers pull from Meinerding’s long career with Marvel Studios, stretching back to the early days of Iron Man (2008).”

Bengus’ Marvel vs. Capcom variant covers will grace several Marvel Comics titles throughout December 2024.
