San Diego Comic-Con 2024 reveals several selections from toymakers and comic book publishers. One is an exciting new collectible based on Geoff Johns’ Ghost Machine comic book label through Image Comics, which has a new toy soon to deploy.

The One:12 Collective Junkyard Joe figure by Mezco Toys is set to proudly march at the show, with pre-orders deploying in a few months. Mezco’s New Junkyard Joe Figure Stands to Attention With Great Detail

At 6.7 inches tall, the Junkyard Joe figure by Mezco Toy perfectly brings the mechanical veteran to life. Along with his cloth uniform, he has several weapons and accessories inspired by the Vietnam War (which the character served in during his titular comic book). These include a bayonet knife, a handgun with a magazine, a landmine, two grenades, interchangeable hands and two gun FX. Equally loaded with over 20 points of articulation, collectors can easily recreate scenes from the Geoff Johns and Gary Frank comic book. First showcased at Ghost Machine’s booth during “Preview Night” for Comic-Con, the figure comes in a stunning collector’s box featuring art by Gary Frank and colorist Brad Anderson. Joe even has his own One:12 Collective display base, cementing the figure as a must-have collector’s item. Michael “Mez” Markowitz, the toy company’s founder, spoke about the figure.

Working with Geoff and Gary on this project has been great. Their passion for this character is extremely contagious. From issue number one, Joe was primed to be immortalized in plastic, I am thrilled the opportunity came my way. Junkyard Joe is a real action hero with heart and was a ton of fun to work on.

Geoff Johns will also be attending San Diego Comic-Con 2024, with the legendary creator present to do signings at the Ghost Machine booth (#1629). This will take place on Thursday, July 25, and Friday, July 26 from 3-4 p.m., with Johns also appearing at the Image Comics booth (#1915) for additional signings from 10-11 am. The Ghost Machine founder will be one of the panelists at Image Comics Panel: Storytelling, Genre, and Crafting Unforgettable Comics, which will take place on Friday, July 26 from 1-2 p.m., rounding out his presence at the illustrious fandom showcase.

Ghost Machine Continues to Be a Major Success

Originally released in 2021, Geiger was the first series in Geoff Johns’ Ghost Machine Universe/The Unnamed Universe. Geiger, Junkyard Joe, and several others exist as members of The Unnamed, who exist at different periods and are key to defeating an unknown evil. The six-issue Junkyard Joe series came out the following year, showcasing the story of a lost military robot that rediscovers its creator and proves to be more than just a work of fiction. Further releases of Junkyard Joe, namely Junkyard Joe #1: Special Black & White Veterans Edition, were used to raise funds to support the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans and the UK-based Veterans Aid. The special Junkyard Joe t-shirt’s proceeds will go to the NCHV and VA, with this shirt available via the GHOST MACHINE Threadless store.

Pre-orders for the Junkyard Joe One:12 figure will open on August 28 as a Mezco Direct Exclusive (MDX) through the company’s website, with the toy later released sometime in October. Some initial Ghost Machine characters and concepts remixed obscure ideas seen at Johns’ former publishing home, DC Comics. These included versions of the Atomic Knights seen in Geiger, with Junkyard Joe himself being similar to G.I. Robot. Ghost Machine continues to launch several new books, with new issues of the ongoing titles Geiger, Redcoat and Rook: Exodus now on sale.
