The world of Spider-Man: Reign is about to meet a new Venom thanks to Peter Parker’s greatest love.
Spider-Man: Reign 2 #2 finds the titular hero and his high-flying cat burglar accomplice known as Kitty-Kat arriving in the middle of New York City two days before they first met. Thanks to the help of the Green Goblin, Peter has been given a chance to set things right by stepping back in time. That doesn’t mean that the heroes are in the clear, however, as they still have to contend with the likes of Venom throughout their mission, and this time the symbiote is hitting closer to home than ever courtesy of its new host – Mary Jane Watson.

Kaare Andrews’ 2006 original Spider-Man: Reign introduced readers to a dark vision of the future of the Marvel Universe. In this timeline, New York City had fallen under the tyrannical rule of Mayor Waters and his militarized police force known as The Reign. While The Reign kept citizens in check through wanton violence, Waters’ WEBB system prevented anyone from ever leaving New York City of their own free will.
The original Spider-Man: Reign also introduced a future version of Eddie Brock still bonded to the Venom symbiote. Though this Venom rarely stepped into the fray for himself, he was instrumental in commanding Waters’ private team of government-sanctioned supervillains, the Sinister Six. Apart from Eddie losing his life at the end of the original story, the return of Venom in Spider-Man: Reign 2 #2 is all the more unexpected due to the presence of its current host, who was also already counted among the deceased.
Every Symbiote Involved in Marvel’s Venom War, Explained
Marvel’s Venom War is filled with all manner of symbiote superheroes and villains, and all of them have their own reason to fight.
Rather than bringing back Waters or Brock, Spider-Man: Reign 2 has put Marvel’s Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk, at the center of its horror. Together with Miles Morales, Fisk is prepared to usher in a new era of dystopian terror by converting the surviving citizens of New York City into digitized versions of their former selves. This would purportedly allow those who undergo the process to become immortal within the WEBB system, it would also mean giving up any semblance of their humanity.

Spider-Man
Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics’ most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man’s most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character’s lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O’Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.
Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he’s changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
