Hank Pym has been a key figure in the Marvel Universe since his debut all the way back in Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby’s opening story “The Man in the Ant Hill!” from the pages of 1961’s Tales to Astonish #27. A renowned scientist, Hank was behind the discovery of Pym Particles, a group of subatomic particles that allow a person to shrink and grow to tremendous sizes almost instantaneously. Through the use of Pym Particles, Hank has embarked upon a superhero career under a variety of monikers, including as the original Ant-Man.
When Hank Pym was replaced by the Skrull agent Criti Noll during the events of Secret Invasion, he fell in love with Greer Nelson, aka Tygra. The two soon had a son, William Grant Nelson, who shares his mother’s feline attributes. Though it wasn’t actually Hank Pym who sired William, that Criti had sacrificed his own genetic template in order to become a perfect replacement meant that Hank is in fact William’s father biologically.
The Heir to a Classic Spider-Man Villain’s Legacy Just Left It All Behind
One of Spider-Man’s oldest villains has just been disowned by his own granddaughter, and it confirms she will always be a hero at heart.
After a decades-long career as a hero, Hank tragically lost his life, only for his death to kick off a series of shocking events that saw him merged with his most devastating creation – Ultron. Eventually, Pym was separated from Ultron, giving him another shot at life that he intended to live in secret as best he could. Unfortunately, a strain of Ultron’s consciousness laid dormant within Hank, leading to the sprawling mystery at the core of Avengers Inc., which ended with Pym and his Lethal Legion taking their leave for Subatomica in the hopes of staving off any further attacks from the tiny portion of his own mind tainted by the villain’s presence.
