Marvel Comics will celebrate ten years of storytelling with an upcoming Star Wars one-shot. Star Wars: A New Legacy #1 will hit comic book shelves in January 2025.
The current era of Marvel‘s Star Wars began in 2015 with the arrival of Jason Aaron and John Cassaday’s hugely successful Star Wars #1. A decade later, Star Wars writers Charles Soule, Jason Aaron, and Kieron Gillen will collaborate with artists Romano Rosanas, Leonard Kirk, and Salva Espin to bring the Star Wars: A New Legacy one-shot, featuring all-new stories that spotlight iconic franchisecharacters that made their debut in a Marvel comic. In addition to Steven McNiven’s main cover, Star Wars: A New Legacy #1 will have variant covers drawn by Leinil Francis Yu and Kyle Holtz.

Marvel Comics editor Mark Paniccia is excited about Star Wars: A New Legacy #1 and its celebration of the publisher’s decade-long Star Wars storytelling. “This is the monumental moment we’ve been waiting for. Celebrating a decade of the re-union of Marvel Comics and Star Wars,” he said. “We’ve got a great package here with some of the most influential Star Wars comic writers in recent history along with amazing art. It is so cool to spotlight as many of the Marvel-created characters as we could. Longtime and new fans alike will get a kick in the thrusters with this,” Paniccia added.
What to Expect From Star Wars: A New Legacy #1
In Soule and Rosanas’ Star Wars: A New Legacy #1 story, the Empire’s top brass, including Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin, will gather to honor Emperor Palpatine on Alderaan. “Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros stage a daring heist, not knowing that Valance is hot on the trail! And a Sith artifact threatens to spoil the party for everyone!” The story sets characters originating from the comics, including Darth Momin, Chanath Cha, Rik Duel, Commander Zahra, and the Tagges, on a collision course.
Yoda’s Death in Return of the Jedi Hid a Tragic Connection to a Beloved Star Wars Character
An official Star Wars novel revealed that Yoda’s death in The Return of the Jedi was linked to that of another Jedi Master from the prequel trilogy.
Aaron and Kirk’s story will explore what became of Scar Squadron AKA Task Force 99. Led by Sergeant Kreel, the elite group answered directly to Darth Vader and were formidable foes to Luke Skywalker, Leia, and the Rebellion during Aaron’s Star Wars run.
Gillen, alongside Espin, will return to the dark side with a story set during his acclaimed Darth Vader run, where he introduced Doctor Aphra. Fans will witness “Vader and Aphra’s troubled dynamic once more and gasp at a perilous game between Aphra’s old crew: 0-0-0, BT-1 and Krrsantan!”
Star Wars: A New Legacy #1 will arrive in comic book shops on January 29, 2025.
