Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost Guide the Next Generation of Mutants in Exceptional X-Men Trailer

Marvel Comics has dropped a brand-new trailer for Exceptional X-Men #1, which hits comic book shelves today. Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost will guide the next generation of mutantkind into a new era.

Marvel‘s action-packed comic trailer, which also teases the fourth issue arrival of a fan-favorite mutant, spotlights Kitty and Emma as they protect young mutants in a perilous mutant-hating, post-Krakoa world that has become the X-Men’s new reality. The trailer features three all-new mutants who turn to the iconic X-Men for help with their emerging gifts: the metallic and whip-wielding Bronze, the emotion-stirring Axo, and the stealth-skilled fighter Melee. The last of the three flagship “From the Ashes” X-Men titles to debut, Exceptional X-Men #1, was penned by Eve L. Ewing and drawn by Carmen Carnero.

As shown in the Exceptional X-Men #1 trailer, Kitty Pryde comes to Bronze’s rescue when hatred and bigotry turn her dream concert into a nightmare. The trailer offers a sneak peek at October’s Exceptional X-Men #2, where Melee bravely stands up to a group of bullies targeting Axo. The trailer also reveals the arrival of the popular X-Men member, Iceman, in December’s Exceptional X-Men #4. The fan-favorite character will presumably “cool things down” when Kitty and Emma inevitably clash over different teaching styles.

Why the New X-Men Team is “Exceptional”

Series writer Ewing discussed Exceptional X-Men, revealing what makes the new team “exceptional.” “Well, those who know that I was a poet long before becoming a comics creator will appreciate that Exceptional X-Men, in a world full of X-adjectives, simply sounds really good. But right now, they are exceptional in that they don’t carry a lot of the same history on their shoulders as the main characters in our other titles,” she explained. “For better or worse, they have no ties to Krakoa, broader team politics, or the previous era of mutantdom. They’re just a group of awkward kids in the Midwest trying to figure out their abilities, like generations of young mutants before them,” the writer added.

The Most Brutal X-Men Movie Death Made No Sense

Cyclops’ death in X-Men: The Last Stand doesn’t just lack emotional or logical sense. It also shows the flawed thinking behind the whole franchise.

Exceptional X-Men artist Carnero discussed her affection for the new mutant characters. “Regarding the young mutants, I think the whole team fell in love with all three of them,” she said. “I love that they are such opposites. Eve gave them clear personalities, hobbies, musical tastes, how they feel… And when it came to designing them, it all developed naturally, and the whole team had a clear vision of what their final looks would be. I can’t wait for readers to meet them,” Carnero added.

Exceptional X-Men #1 is now available in comic book shops.

X-Men

Since their debut in 1963, Marvel’s X-Men have been more than just another superhero team. While the team really hit its stride as the All New, All Different X-Men in 1975, Marvel’s heroic mutants have always operated as super-outcasts, protecting a world that hates and fears them for their powers.

Key members of the X-Men include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Rogue, and Storm. Often framed as the world’s second strongest superheroes, after the Avengers, they are nonetheless one of Marvel’s most popular and important franchises.

Marvel is a multimedia powerhouse encompassing comic books, movies, TV shows, and more, captivating audiences with its iconic characters, thrilling narratives, and diverse worlds. From the legendary Avengers to the street-level heroes like Daredevil, Marvel’s universe is vast and ever-expanding.
