Image Comics to Publish Mind-Bending Korean Crime Caper Graphic Novel

Image Comics has announced it will publish an all-new crime caper graphic novel called Royals in early 2025. Eisner Award-winning writer Derek Kirk Kim and rising star artist Jacob Perez will team up for the “mind-bending” new story.
Royals takes place in the ‘shadowy back alleys’ of Seoul, South Korea, as twin brothers Paul and Castor use their uncanny telepathic connection for profit in the perfect poker hustle. The two are eventually caught red-handed by one of Seoul’s most ruthless crime syndicates — and now the brothers must launch a daring heist using their telepathic powers to save their lives. The book’s description teases that their success hinges on whether or not the two brothers “don’t end up killing each other first.” The hardcover original graphic novel will be available in comic stores on April 9, 2025, and in independent bookstores, Amazon, and other book retailers on April 22, 2025. Royals, including Amazon’s Kindle, Apple Books, and the Google Play Store, will also be available on digital platforms.

The creative team behind Royals sees The Last Mermaid and Same Difference‘s Derek Kirk Kim and Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Jacob Perez join forces for the original story. Kim was also the director of Disney’s Amphibia and the lead character designer of Adventure Time. Perez is also a freelance character designer for Disney Television Animation.
Creators Say Royals Mixes Crime Capers and Martial Arts
Speaking in Image Comics‘ press release announcing the series, Kim gave fans a hint of what kind of action they can expect when Royals hits shelves next April. “As a lifelong fan of crime capers and Jackie Chan films, this is a dream project come true for me,” he said. “And having it brought to glorious life by Jacob Perez with his vivid, dynamic art is an absolute honor!”
