DC’s Absolute Power has just given Hal Jordan a chance to learn how capable some of his world’s silliest supervillains are at their best.

After being trapped alongside numerous others in one of Amanda Waller’s superhuman prisons, Hal Jordan finally gets a shot at freedom in the pages of Green Lantern #14. Of course, he still doesn’t have access to his powers, leaving Hal both outnumbered and outgunned in his attempt to escape. Thankfully, where he is escaping from just so happens to be one of the many armories Waller has built for herself, and even if the best he can do is the Condiment King’s mustard and relish guns, that is actually good enough to see his plan through.

The original Condiment King, Buddy Standler, was an original creation of Paul Dini and Randy Rogel for the DC Animated Universe. Standler first appeared in the 1994 episode of Batman: The Animated Series entitled “Make ‘Em Laugh,” which introduced him as a former television comic turned food-based supervillain. As it turned out, Standler didn’t transform into the Condiment King of his own volition, but rather as a result of exposure to the Mad Hatter’s mind control technology by the Clown Prince of Crime himself, the Joker.

Hal Jordan is just one of the many heroes who have fallen to Amanda Waller’s army of supercharged Amazo androids over the course of DC Comics’ Absolute Power event. With the help of Failsafe, the original Amazo android turned literal fail-safe against the Dark Knight, Waller has developed six more of its kind, all capable of stealing the powers of the world’s greatest heroes, seemingly for good.

Among the seven Amazo androids employed by Waller, collectively known as Task Force VII, is Jadestone, who stole away the powers of nearly every Green Lantern who had graced Earth with their presence. After consuming the powers of Alan Scott, the Green Lantern who draws his powers from the mystical Starheart, Jadestone found itself imbued with an unsettlingly profound sense of duty to serve others. Though this hasn’t driven it to take action against Waller yet, it does make Jadestone the latest member of Task Force VII to exhibit behaviors she should likely take note of for herself.
