[[{“value”:”

The following contains major spoilers for Green Lantern #13, on sale now from DC Comics.

Green Lantern is introducing a whole new end of the Emotional Spectrum, and there is no telling what power Sorrow might unleash.

While Hal Jordan is busy being tortured at the behest of Amanda Waller in the pages of Green Lantern #13 in a bid to get the titular hero to give up the secrets of his powers, a far less imposing figure is discovering powers he didn’t even know existed. Unfortunately for Nathan Allen Broome, the power of Sorrow isn’t one he would likely have chosen for himself, And, unfortunately for Hal, it is almost assuredly going to become his next biggest problem sooner than later.

Nathan Allen Broome made his first appearance in the pages of 2023’s Green Lantern #2 by Jeremy Adams and Xermanico as the new fiancé of Hal’s old love interest, Carol Ferris. Although Hal tried his best to inject himself into their lives and rekindle his relationship with Carol, none of his attempts seemed to make a difference. At least, that was the case until Carol realized that Hal was in grave danger, driving her to take up arms as Star Sapphire once more, all while leaving Nathan behind without any explanation.

The Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum was introduced in 2003’s Green Lantern: Rebirth #3 and was crafted by creator Geoff Johns as the ultimate source of power not just for the Green Lanterns, but for all Lantern Corps. Initially, the Spectrum included Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet, with Black and White being introduced later on. Since then, other colors have debuted, including the power of Ultraviolet within the Invisible Spectrum, with the introduction of Sorrow in Green Lantern #13 marking the eleventh known individual color in total.
