EXCLUSIVE: See Forge’s New X-Men Team In Their First Mission

The following contains spoilers for X-Force #1on sale next week

Marvel continues its “From the Ashes” relaunch of the X-Men with the release of its latest brand-new series, X-Force, which debuts next week, and CBR has an exclusive preview of the first mission by this new team put together by Forge (hot off of his star-making stint on X-Men ’97).

X-Force #1 is from writer Geoffrey Thorne, artist Marcus To, colorist Erick Arciniega, and letterer Joe Caramagna, and debuts a brand-new version of the longstanding X-Men team known as X-Force. This time, the mutant genius, Forge, whose mutant superpower is the ability to create pretty much ANYthing, has created a device that warns him about dangers to the universe that need to be “fixed.” Since they need to be fixed quickly, there is no time to use diplomacy, hence Forge forming a secretive strike force to achieve his goals (the trick is that even Forge doesn’t know WHAT the problem is until he’s actually on the scene).

The roster of the team is fluid, depending on the mission in question (Deadpool guest stars in this first issue), but the four core members of the team are Forge, Sage, Betsy Braddock, and Rachel Summers.

X-Artist Called Out by Fans on Social Media for ‘Tracing’

Fans on social media have been taking issue with Phoenix artist Alessandro Miracolo over allegations of his art being “traced” from other artists

In the preview pages, we see Forge and Sage literally leap into action, as we discover that Forge’s genius has allowed him to create an artificial form of Wakandan Vibranium that allows them to have the abilities that Black Panther has in his suits. Sage and Forge are an interesting pair, as Forge can create anything that he can think of, while Sage, as she notes in these pages, thinks of EVERYTHING.

We then get a flashback to Forge recruiting Betsy and Rachel to the team. Betsy is resistant to the idea (she has served on past versions of X-Force in the past), but Rachel was all-in, and Betsy decides to follow her girlfriend’s lead.

The preview ends with a cliffhanger, as we see X-Force encounter something shocking – what it is, we’ll just have to wait until next week to find out!
