EXCLUSIVE: Mad Cave Announces New Dick Tracy Encore Editions

CBR can exclusively reveal that Mad Cave Studios’ critically acclaimed Dick Tracy comics will return with special new Encore Editions. A five-issue set of Dick Tracy Encore Editions will feature cover artwork by Eisner Award-winning artist Dave Johnson.

The first story arc in Mad Cave StudiosDick Tracy ongoing comic book series was written by Alex Segura (Secret Identity, The Legendary Lynx) and Michael Moreci (Barbaric, Stranger Things), and featured artwork by Geraldo Borges (Nightwing). Mad Cave’s Dick Tracy comics feature an all-new, noir-infused era for the legendary detective set in The City after World War II. In the series, Dick Tracy is a rising star detective investigating a brutal murder, and he soon finds himself ensnared in a complicated web that threatens all he cares about. The Dick Tracy Encore Editions will be available in comic stores on Jan. 15, 2025.

CBR also has an exclusive look at the cover art for the Dick Tracy Encore Edition issues. Dave Johnson (100 Bullets, Invincible, Deadpool) immortalizes the Dick Tracy villains Flat Top, Mumbles, Itchy, Lips Manlis and Pruneface across the five issues receiving the encore treatment. Mad Cave’s Encore Editions come with cardstock covers for “maximum collectability”, and the Dick Tracy Encore Editions issues will allow fans to collect the complete first storyline from the ongoing series.

New Dick Tracy Comics Offer “Fresh and Modern” Take on Iconic Detective Series

Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy comic strip made its debut in 1931’s Detroit Mirror, telling the story of the tough and intelligent titular police detective. Gould continued to write the Dick Tracy comic strip until 1977, and various artists have kept it ongoing and making it one of the longest running comic strips of all time. The character has become a symbol of law and order, with the strip going on to launch radio series, books, television shows and films, including the 1990 movie Dick Tracy starring Warren Beatty, Al Pacino and Madonna.

Daredevil Gets New Series Ahead of Born Again Release

Marvel announces a new Daredevil series set in a dark future where the Marvel Universe is on the brink of collapsing.

Earlier this year, Mad Cave Studios launched their new era for the detective, with Dick Tracy #1 hitting stores April 24. The series blends the classic elements of Dick Tracy’s world, including his legendary villains, supporting cast and watch radio, but also gives it a hardboiled and realistic take. Dick Tracy #5, which was the finale of the first arc, was released in September and saw the character come face to face with a shocking betrayal that wrapped the story up. The sixth issue of the series, which begins the next chapter in Tracy’s career following the bloody gang war that rocked the city in the first arc, is due for release Dec. 4.

The collectible Dick Tracy Encore Editions will go on sale Jan. 15, 2025 from Mad Cave Studios.
