CBR can exclusively announce that Dark Horse Comics will publish the next volume of their Plants Vs Zombies comics series. The latest volume in the beloved franchise will hit comic book stores in June 2025.

Dark Horse‘s solicit for the upcoming volume, Plants Vs Zombies Vol. 24: The Big Spitball reveals more about the epic characters and lore of the series. “Zomboss visits his old model train, dubbed ‘Big Spitball,’ in a gigantic train set that takes up a whole warehouse. Using the Big Spitball’s nuclear-powered engine and shrink ray, Zomboss miniaturizes the buildings of Neighborville and adds them to the huge diorama! He even shrinks down a building with Nate, Patrice, Crazy Dave, and some plants inside! Now the team and their plant pals need to reach the engine of the Big Spitball to unshrink themselves and save Neighborville!” Plants Vs Zombies Vol. 24: The Big Spitball goes on sale June 3, 2025.

Eisner Award-winning writer Paul Tobin returns for the new volume in the Plants Vs Zombies comics series and is joined by artist Luisa Russo with letters by Eisner-nominated Steve Dutro and colors by Heather Breckel. The 23rd volume in the series, titled Zapped, will be released on Oct. 8.

Plants vs Zombies Comics Expand Popular Franchise’s Lore

The Plants vs. Zombies video game franchise launched in 2009 and has gone on to have a variety of different sequels, spin-offs, collectible card games, and comics. The series follows David “Crazy Dave” Blazing and his associates as they use special plants to defend against zombie invasions led by Dr. Edgar George Zomboss. A new game, Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia was released in January 2024 and adapted characters and plot elements from the Dark Horse comics series.

In July 2013, Dark Horse Comics began publishing the ongoing comic book series which follows teenagers Nate Timely and Patrice Blazing as they protect Neighborville from Zomboss’ army with the help of Crazy Dave. In addition to its collected graphic novel editions, Dark Horse has also released two “Zomnibus” volumes, each of which collects multiple graphic novels and includes bonus stories.

Plants Vs Zombies, Vol. 24: The Big Spitball is scheduled to be released on June 3, 2025, by Dark Horse Comics.
