Marvel is celebrating the rise of Doctor Doom with new variant covers releasing this October. The special Doctor Doom variants will be available for twenty-one of the publisher’s comics, each showing the villain defeating Marvel’s heroes.

The recent announcement of Robert Downey Jr. returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to portray Doctor Doom has got fans excited, and Marvel is capitalizing on the hype with Doom variant covers. The comics’ publisher has revealed eleven of the new covers, with the rest expected to be showcased closer to their release in October. In the revealed artwork, Doom easily defeats a variety of Marvel icons, including Deadpool, Iron Man, Miles Morales, and the X-Men’s Storm and Wolverine. The first batch of Doom Variant Covers releases on Oct. 2 and will continue each Wednesday up until Oct. 30.

In addition to the covers revealed above, Marvel will also have Doctor Doom variants for Daredevil #14, X-Men #5, and Immortal Thor #16 on Oct. 2, Exceptional X-Men #2, Fantastic Four #26, and Phoenix #4 on Oct. 9 as well as Scarlet Witch #5 and X-Factor #3 on Oct. 23. The last batch of variants, releasing Oct. 30, will be for Amazing Spider-Man #60 and Captain America #14.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Casting Skyrockets Doom to New Popularity

Victor Von Doom’s upcoming takeover of the Marvel Universe comes after the news of Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as the character in the next two Avengers movies. Fans are curious to see what storyline Doom will bring to Marvel’s cinematic world — and if there will be any connection between Doom and Tony Stark’s Iron Man, also portrayed by Downey Jr.

Renewed interest in Doctor Doom has already raised the value of comics featuring the character. The supervillain was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in The Fantastic Four #5 back in July 1962, going on to become the archenemy of Reed Richards and causing mass conflict across the entire Marvel Universe.

Marvel’s Doctor Doom variant covers will be released throughout the month of October.
