The next great threat to Gotham City might just be the Dark Knight himself.

Batman: Full Moon #1 finds the titular hero working tirelessly to investigate a series of brutal attacks across Gotham City. With the help of magician extraordinaire and love interest Zatanna Zatara, as well as a begrudging John Constantine, Batman has no problem hunting down the werewolf at the heart of the series. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that Batman is capable of bringing said werewolf down without suffering what could be a life-altering bite for himself.

First seen in the pages of 1964’s Hawkman #4, by writer Gardner Fox and artist Murphy Anderson, Zatanna Zatara is one of the greatest magic users in the DC Universe. The daughter of fellow magician Giovanni Zatara, Zatanna’s legacy as both the original Zatara’s heir and as a member of the Homo Magi offshoot of humanity have found her at the heart of numerous storylines over the years. Zatanna is currently starring in her own DC Black Label series, Zatanna: Bring Down the House, from writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Javier Rodríguez.

Another of DC’s most infamous magic users, John Constantine made his comic book debut in 1985’s Swamp Thing #37 by writer Alan Moore and artist Rick Veitch. While John Constantine’s story has changed in subtle ways over his various comic book incarnations and their respective adaptations on the small and silver screens, the character is consistently a brash British mystic with a heart of occasional gold. Since his introduction, John Constantine has been a part of numerous major storylines and various superhero teams, including the fan-favorite Justice League Dark.
