Wonder Woman Writer Spins New Story About Revenge

BOOM! Studios has announced it will publish a dark new story of revenge written by Harvey and Eisner Award-winning author Brian Azzarello. The Creeping Below mixes “black metal, magic, and Norse mythology” and promises to be both beautiful and brutal.
AIPT shared the press release and cover art for the upcoming debut issue of the series. The solicit for the series reads: “When Val, an American metalhead attending a music festival abroad in Oslo, is victimized and killed at the hands of a charismatically evil local black metal band, the Old Gods of Norse Mythology raise her up and guide her along the path of brutal vengeance in the name of women everywhere. But will she walk the warriors’ path, or become something far more terrible?” The Creeping Below #1 goes on sale Oct. 2 and is available for pre-order now.

BOOM! Studios has teased that the series is a “violent, electrifying descent into a bloody, black metal infused revenge saga.” The various cover art designs for the debut issue perfectly capture the eerie story, including its nods to Norse mythology. Series artist Del Rey’s main cover depicts a huge tree that takes on a feminine appearance as it looms over a person standing before it. Other covers by artists like Jae Lee, Mike Deodato Jr. and Maria Llovet show how the series infuses black metal and magic with its Scandinavian roots.
Penguin Random House Expands Comics Publishing with BOOM! Studios Purchase
It was recently revealed that the publishing company Penguin Random House is acquiring BOOM! Studios later this summer in a move to expand its comics publishing. BOOM! Studios, which was founded in 2005, has released numerous critically acclaimed original and indie series over the years, including stories from some of the biggest names in pop culture.

Stine’s Stuff of Nightmares. The imprint also publishes works for popular licensed properties, including comics for Dune: House Corrino, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and The Expanse: Dragon Tooth.
