Wonder Woman Is Recreating Her Own Origin Story for the Most Heartbreaking Reason of All

The following contains major spoilers for Wonder Woman #14, on sale now from DC Comics.
Wonder Woman is redoing her very own origin story to give the future of the DC Universe new hope, and a new hero.
Wonder Woman #14 marks a tragic turn for the titular hero, as her many enemies seated within the United States government go to formerly unthinkable lengths to try and break her. To that end, Wonder Woman’s beloved Steve Trevor is gunned down in cold blood, leaving his body to wash up from the Potomac and into the middle of Washington, D.C.’s tidal basin. In her grief, Wonder Woman secludes herself far from the rest of the world, though she is far from as broken as her enemies had hoped. In fact, she takes the opportunity, some sand and a strand of her own hair to breathe new life into the world in the form of an infant Elizabeth Marston Prince.

Steve Trevor made his DC Comics debut right alongside Diana Prince herself in William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter’s “Introducing Wonder Woman” from the pages of 1942’s All-Star Comics #8. Trevor made a name for himself as a pilot in the United States Air Force. In what might be his most important mission, Steve crashed down on Paradise Island, the home of the Amazons, where he first met Wonder Woman and quickly fell in love with the iconic superhero.
The first incarnation of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Marston Prince, aka Trinity, made her debut in 2023’s over-sized Wonder Woman #800. As a child, Lizzie spent much of her time being looked after by Jon Kent and Damian Wayne, who did their best to stop various superpowered threats without putting Lizzie herself in any direct danger. After growing up alongside Jon and Damian, Lizzie joined them as the third member of the Future State iteration of DC’s iconic Trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
Bruce Wayne Reveals How He Becomes Batman Without His Cape and Cowl
Bruce Wayne has just shown how far his reach in Gotham City truly goes, and why he doesn’t need a cape or cowl to become Batman.
The appearance of Elizabeth Marston Prince in the pages of Wonder Woman #14 marks the character’s official debut within the Prime Earth continuity of DC Comics. More importantly, her origin as seen follows after Wonder Woman’s own classic origin story, in which her mother, Hippolyta, formed Diana out of clay and imbued her with life through near divine means. Although the specifics of this origin story have changed over the years and with various universe-wide reboots of the DC Universe, it has remained an intrinsic part of Wonder Woman’s story as a whole.
