The following contains major spoilers for Uncanny X-Men #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men have finally come face-to-face with the latest generation of mutant heroes.
Uncanny X-Men #2 finds the eponymous team’s attempt to grieve the death of a friend in solitude interrupted by the sudden appearance of four young mutants in dire need of their help. As so many other first impressions go in the world of comics, this otherwise ordinary meet-up quickly turns violent. And, while the likes of Wolverine, Rogue, and Gambit have proven themselves time and time again, Calico, Deathdream, Jitter, and Ransom are more than happy to prove themselves all the same.

Uncanny X-Men is one of the numerous X-Titles that comprise Marvel’s From the Ashes event, which is itself centered around how various mutants are picking up the pieces in the wake of the end of the Krakoan Era. While the new lineup of the primary X-Men team is dealing with efforts to rebuild and safeguard mutantkind in Alaska, the likes of X-Force and X-Factor have taken on vastly different missions. For the heroes of the Uncanny X-Men, theirs involves tackling whatever the world throws at them, which now includes a team of budding young mutants.
Among these new mutants are Becca Constance-Pinette, aka Calico, Hotoru, aka Deathdream, Sofia Yong, aka Jitter, and Valentin Correa, aka Ransom. Each of these new characters has their powers based on real-world “hidden disabilities,” as per series scribe and acclaimed writer Gail Simone. “Everyone is my favorite while I’m writing them, this is why it’s been so fun to write this,” Simone said of the series and its characters ahead of Uncanny X-Men‘s release.
Moon Knight Is More Powerful Than Marvel Fans Realized
Marvel’s original Moon Knight takes the life of his successor — but what comes next puts him at odds with his own patron god.
While the eponymous heroes of Uncanny X-Men have relocated to New Orleans in the course of their latest adventures, their old home at the Xavier Institute has been transformed into Graymalkin Prison. This rebranded facility currently houses what its management considers the most dangerous mutant criminals, including Theresa Cassidy, better known as Siryn. Currently, the former Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters is being overseen by Doctor Corina Ellis, who only has the worst in mind for Marvel’s mutants.
