The Foot Clan have been a part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ world from the very first issue of the original series. An ancient, often cult-like band of ninjas and assassins, the Foot Clan have frequently stood in opposition to the heroes of Clan Hamato across nearly every single iteration of the franchise. Among the most infamous members of the Foot Clan is the Shredder himself, Oroku Saki, whose presence and relationship to his Clan have largely defined the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series from IDW Publishing.

While it is classically the Shredder who commands the Foot Clan, the current version of Oroku Saki has long since seen his former position taken up by his descendant, Oroku Karai. In recent years, Karai has gone to great lengths to lead the Foot Clan in a new direction, even going so far as to align herself and her followers with the Turtles themselves. This was especially true during the near world-ending events of the immortal Rat King’s Armageddon Game.

Debuting in a forgotten Archie Comics TMNT series, the Mighty Mutanimals have aided the Ninja Turtles in several books and cartoons since then.

The Heroes in a Half Shell split up following the events of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #150 by fan-favorite scribe Sophie Campbell, which brought to a close the Turtles’ long-running fight against the time-displaced Armaggon. Although the heroes were ultimately victorious, their defeat of Armaggon came at some particularly high costs. Since then, the individual members of the Splinter Clan have found new lives for themselves, with the likes of Raphael and Jennika continuing on in their personal missions as heroes.
