The original Hyperion first appeared in the 1971’s Avengers #85 by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema. Hailing from the reality of Earth-712, also known as the reality of Earth-S, Hyperion shares an origin story that is almost identical to that of DC’s Superman. Eventually, Hyperion joined his fellow Earth-S vigilante Kyle Richmond, aka Nighthawk, in forming the Squadron Supreme alongside other superpowered heroes such as Power Princess, Doctor Spectrum, and the Whizzer.
2012’s Avengers #1 (by Jonathan Hickman and Jerome Opeña) introduced a new Hyperion in the form of Marcus Milton from Earth-13034. This Hyperion was the sole survivor of his home dimension’s destruction during a Multiversal incursion. Suddenly a resident of the primary Marvel Universe of Earth-616, this Hyperion joined forces with the Avengers and even became close friends with Thor. The Earth-13034 Hyperion would also team up with other dimensionally-displaced heroes and form a new Squadron Supreme consisting of variants of the original team’s most iconic members.
Daredevil: “Murder is Art” in Bloody New Marvel Series
Marvel is about to give the Woman Without Fear the Red Band treatment in an all-new series — Daredevil: Unleash Hell.
The most recent version of Hyperion to crop up in recent years was introduced in the pages of 2018’s Avengers #10 by writer Jason Aaron and artists Ed McGuinness, David Marquez, Frazer Irving, Adam Kubert, and Andrea Sorrentino. This Hyperion, like the rest of his Squadron Supreme, were never truly heroes at all but rather were born of Mephisto’s infernal magics before being unleashed upon the world. Though they fought as heroes, Mephisto’s Squadron Supreme would eventually reveal their true colors during the events of 2021’s Heroes Reborn before ultimately being defeated by the Avengers.
