Wolverine: Marvel Kills Off One of its Most Iconic Characters
Wolverine’s latest trip through the apocalypse has just given one of Marvel’s most important characters the most fitting send-off of all time.
Things kick off with the release of Wolverine #4 and X-Men #8 on December 4, variants of which will feature the likenesses of Wolverine and Cassandra Nova as illustrated by Meinerding and Rubeo & Bacallado, respectively. On December 18, Deadpool #9 will be released with a variant cover featuring the Merc With a Mouth himself as illustrated by Park, whose Wolverine will also grace the cover of Deadpool/Wolverine #1 on January 1. For fans who want to take in as much of the movie as possible, the Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie hardcover book will be available on October 29.
Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine premiered in theaters on July 26 to great reviews. The third film in the Reynolds-led Deadpool franchise, Deadpool & Wolverine follows the Merc With a Mouth as he races against a ticking clock to save his own dying universe. The film introduced Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, the villainous twin of X-Men founder Charles Xavier.
Marvel Reveals an X-Force Member Who Wasn’t Supposed to Be on the Team
Marvel’s new X-Force lineup has one member who was never supposed to be a part of the team — and not everyone is convinced she belongs there.
With Deadpool & Wolverine marking the official entrance of mutants everywhere to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has been plenty of speculation as to where the Merc With a Mouth will go next in the MCU. Although Reynolds has openly stated that he would reprise the role at any given opportunity, he has also stated that the latest film wasn’t meant to be a jumping-off point. “This movie was made as a complete experience,” Reynolds explained. “It wasn’t meant to be a commercial for another movie. It wasn’t meant to be any of that stuff. And, I think I get a great deal of joy making a movie like that.”
Wolverine #4 and X-Men #8 go on sale on December 4 from Marvel Comics. Deadpool #9 and Deadpool/Wolverine #1 go on sale on December 18 and January 1, respectively.
