Spider-Man Forms an Awkward Alliance in Marvel’s Venom War

[[{“value”:”

The following contains major spoilers for Venom War #1, on sale August 7 from Marvel Comics.

Peter Parker has just reunited with the symbiote that nearly destroyed his life – And they’re going to have to save the world together.

While Eddie Brock and his various selves from throughout time and space converge on what is sure to be an unexpectedly brutal professional wrestling event in the pages of Venom War #1, Peter Parker is well on his way toward intervening as only he can. Though Peter’s usual red-and-blue suit is out of commission, he still has his black Spider-Man suit to throw on when needed. Or rather, Peter’s black suit has him, as it turns out to be none other than the Venom symbiote itself in disguise. Even more surprising, it seems like this time they are actually on the same side of the fight.

Spider-Man Proves How Evil Green Goblin Has Always Been

Norman Osborn has always been a villain, but Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin proves that he is more evil than everyone believed him to be.

The Venom symbiote has been a part of the Marvel Universe since its first appearance in 1984’s Amazing Spider-Man #252, although fans hardly knew what the character actually was at the time. Originally, Venom was introduced in the form of Peter Parker’s new suit, which he acquired on Battleworld during the events of Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars (by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck). Eventually, it was revealed that the suit was an alien symbiote that had bonded to Peter and was attempting to worm its way into the forefront of his mind in a bid to make their bond permanent.

After being violently spurned by Spider-Man, Venom found a new, mostly permanent host in the form of Eddie Brock, who also harbored a lethal grudge against Peter at the time. Initially, the two played the role of an outright villain together as Venom. However, they quickly found themselves spiraling into the life of an unlikely anti-hero as New York City’s Lethal Protector. In the years since, Eddie and Venom’s relationship with one another has evolved, as have their respective histories, ultimately leading them to be separated following Eddie’s ascension to the role of the Marvel Unvierse’s King in Black.

Marvel Comics’ Venom War finds both Eddie and his son Dylan Brock leading two separate fronts against one another, each hoping to claim the Venom symbiote for themselves. Although neither is necessarily taking up the role of a villain, each believes that the other’s success will lead to an era of darkness for the entire Marvel Universe. As such, Dylan has dedicated himself to stopping his father by any means necessary, whereas Eddie, on the other hand, amassed a veritable army of his fellow Kings in Black.
