Princess Leia Joins Darth Vader in New First Look

Marvel Comics has unveiled a first look teasing the unlikely father-daughter partnership between two of Star Wars‘ most popular characters. The publisher’s upcoming Star Wars: Darth Vader #50 will include a backup story that explores the possibility of Princess Leia joining the Dark Side.

Marvel revealed a Star Wars: Darth Vader #50 variant cover spotlighting Darth Vader and Princess Leia, who dons an armored version of her usual outfit that will debut in the issue. Best-selling cover artist Derck Chew provides both the variant cover and a virgin variant cover. The Star Wars: Darth Vader #50 backup story is written by series artist Greg Park, with art by Luke Ross. The publisher’s upcoming installment, which arrives this September, will be the final issue of the longest-running Darth Vader comic series. Raffaele Ienco drew Darth Vader #50, while Leinil Francis Yu designed the book’s main cover.

According to Marvel, Star Wars: Darth Vader #50 will “deliver the stunning conclusion to Darth Vader’s tormented battle against the Emperor’s schemes and the Schism Imperial’s secret plot to topple the Empire. Together with Star Wars #50, it’ll be the finale to the current era of Marvel’s Star Wars line that takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.”

Marvel’s Next Phase of Star Wars Storytelling

With the conclusion of the post-The Empire Strikes Back storytelling in Star Wars: Darth Vader #50 and Star Wars #50, a new post-Return of the Jedi era begins with the arrival of Star Wars: Battle of Jaaku -Insurgency Rising. Alex Segura (Star Wars: Poe Dameron – Free Fall, Edge ofSpider-Verse) will pen the series, with Leonard Kirk, Stefano Raffaele, and Jethro Morales on art duty. The book will be the first of three limited series centered around the final moments of the Galactic Civil War.
