One of Marvels Strangest Villains is Out for Moon Knight’s Blood

[[{“value”:”

One of Moon Knight’s most mind-bending enemies is back, and he’s a serious problem.

During an otherwise ordinary patrol in the pages of Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #2, the titular hero and his allies 8-Ball and Hunter’s Moon intercept a gang of cartel members carrying a massive amount of the latest designer drug — Glitter. As it turns out, however, the Glitter is far from the only thing, or rather person, of interest. Not only was the van the heroes chased down carrying drugs, it was carting one of Moon Knight’s strangest villains, and now that the Cubist is back, he has only the worst of intentions for his old foe.

Introduced alongside his partner Glaze in the pages of 1993’s Marc Spector: Moon Knight #52 by writer Terry Kavanagh and artist James Fry, the villainous Cubist is a member of the Hellbent, a species born from the intermingling of prehistorical humankind and members of the vaguely humanoid Elder Races. These Hellbent were typically shunned by both sides of their wider lineage, forcing them into the shadows for millennia. Eventually, an incarnation of the Knights Templar swore an oath to protect the Hellbent, and when the Templar Seth came into conflict with Moon Knight, so did the Hellbent under his care.

When Glaze and Cubist first encountered Moon Knight, the duo had been sent to New York City to sew confusion and chaos throughout Central Park. There, Cubist unleashed his perception-altering pheromones, all while Glaze trapped unwitting victims in a substance not unlike her namesake. Despite the threat they posed, Cubist and Glaze only lasted two issues going up against Moon Knight before they were relegated to the realm of comic book obscurity.

A Classic X-Men Team Just Broke Up

One of the most powerful and unnerving mutant teams in the Marvel Universe have just broken up, and it may have cost one of them her powers.

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu continues where the previous series, Vengeance of the Moon Knight, left off. Over the past few years, Moon Knight has shifted his personal purpose from serving Khonshu to serving his own Midnight Mission, so much so that he was willing to truly sacrifice himself rather than freeing his patron god and being guaranteed further resurrections. When Khonshu was freed from his Asgardian prison during the events of the recently concluded Blood War event, he was once again able to grant his full blessings to his chosen champions, in turn bringing Marc back for yet another turn as Moon Knight.
