Jean Grey proved that one Phoenix Force is stronger than the entire Black Order combined.
After joining Corsair in his search for answers regarding a string of cosmic kidnappings carried out by the Black Order, the titular hero of Phoenix #3 finds herself staring down Thanos’ personal army for herself. While the likes of Proxima Midnight and Ebony Maw are certainly nothing to brush off as easy pickings for the majority of Marvel superheroes, Jean and the Phoenix are anything but ordinary, even when compared to the Avengers. In fact, not a single member of Thanos’ Black Order manages to land a single strike against the Phoenix, whereas she is able to send them packing with only a single strike of her own.

First seen in the pages of 2013’s New Avengers #8 by Jonathan Hickman and Mike Deodato, the Black Order is Thanos’ personal army. In their first appearance, the Black Order consisted of Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive, Black Dwarf, and Proxima Midnight, each of whom posed a serious threat. Since then, various others have joined and left the ranks of the Black Order, including Supergiant, Challenger, and the Black Swan known as Yabbat Ummon Tarru.
Most recently, the Black Order has been tasked with capturing various figures from across the universe at the behest of the Mad Titan, who has been searching for the latest addition to the Infinity Stones — the Death Stone. Although Thanos has already gone up against Thor in his quest, he has yet to attain the prize he seeks. At the same time, he has come closer than ever in recent weeks, especially with the various hosts of the Infinity Stones suffering from infighting.

In her latest journey, Jean has uncovered the threat of the recently returned Dark God Perrikus, who is looking to find a new avatar to carry out his ominous works on his behalf.
