Moon Knight Is More Powerful Than Marvel Fans Realized

[[{“value”:”

Marvel’s original Moon Knight proves that he doesn’t need his patron god’s rules – and it could be a major problem.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #9 finds Marc Spector following Khonshu’s orders to slay the false Moon Knight, Max Coleridge, albeit not as the God of the Moon had hoped. After bringing Coleridge’s life to an end, Spector wastes no time in bringing his former ally right back to life. And, while Khonshu is far from pleased by this development, he has no room to say that Spector didn’t follow through on his promise.

Max Coleridge made his Marvel Comics debut in 1976’s Super-Villain Team-Up #5 by writer Steve Englehart and artist Herb Trimpe. In his youth, Max enjoyed a life of luxury and leisure thanks to his parents’ wealth. Tragedy struck when his parents were brutally gunned down, driving Max to become a hero in his own right in order to prevent others from suffering the same fate. In the years that followed, Max worked tirelessly to study criminology, martial arts, and even occult practices, the latter of which helped him attain control over Darkforce energies and take up the mantle of the Shroud.

As the Shroud, Coleridge went to extreme lengths to prove himself. This saw him come into conflict with immensely powerful villains such as the Red Skull, all while establishing some truly shocking allies including Latveria’s very own beloved dictator – Doctor Doom. Coleridge regularly injected himself into the criminal underworld in his efforts as a hero and even ended up fighting alongside Moon Knight and Tigra during their time with the West Coast Avengers.

Although Coleridge eventually slipped into obscurity, he returned as Moon Knight following the news of Marc Spector’s death. Initially, Coleridge took aimed for the members of the Midnight Mission that Marc founded, believing that they were somehow detrimental to his true cause. This overtly violent mean streak drew the ire of not just the Midnight Mission, but Khonshu himself, the latter of whom ordered Marc to hunt down and kill his supposed successor as Moon Knight in a bid to keep the mantle’s sacred legacy well intact.
