Dark Horse Comics has announced that Mike Allred’s award-winning Madman universe stories will be collected in six new omnibus paperback editions. The first volume will go on sale next year.
Madman is Allred’s creator-owned superhero who has been seen in comics released by various publishers over the years. The character made his first appearance in Creatures of the Id #1 back in October 1990. Madman, also known as Frank Einstein, pays homage to both Frank Sinatra and Albert Einstein while referencing Frankenstein, perfectly capturing Allred’s love of superheroes and 1950s sci-fi films. The Madman Omnibus Editions released by Dark Horse will collect Allred’s diverse run of Madman stories, beginning with the character’s first appearance and continuing on with his mysterious origins and other adventures throughout time and space.

In the comics, Madman possesses many supernatural abilities, including the intuitive power to instinctively learn any skill at superhuman rates. The character also has psionic powers, including the ability to learn information about a person through physical contact, as well as clairvoyance. The first omnibus volume of Dark Horse’s Madman comics will be available in bookstores on June 24, 2025, and in comic shops the day after. Volume 1 is now available for pre-order at Amazon and Barnes and Noble as well as at indie bookstores and local comic shops. The book has a suggested retail price of $49.99.
Madman Omnibus Volume 1 includes stories written and illustrated by Allred with colors by Laura Allred and Han Allred. The omnibus also collects Madman’s adventures from 1990 to 1996, reprinting “For the Record”, Madman (original series) #1-3, Madman Adventures #1-3, and Madman Comics #1-10. The collection also includes Mike Allred’s never-before-published first foray into comics titled THEY! as well as bonus pinups and art by other comic artists, including Frank Miller, Jack Kirby, Moebius, Frank Frazetta, Emily Carroll and more.
While Allred is most well known for his work with Madman and co-creating the iZombie comic series, the comic book artist has also enjoyed a legendary career drawing Marvel Comics’ most iconic characters over the years. His work, which often draws upon pop art and classic styles from the 1950s and 1960s, will be collected in a special deluxe hardcover art book, The Marvel Art of Michael Allred. The book was launched as a Kickstarter campaign last month and has already raised over $150,000.
