Marvel Unveils Future of Ultimate Universe

As Marvel’s Ultimate Universe approaches its second year, Marvel Comics has unveiled its future direction. The publisher’s unpredictable storytelling and bold character reinventions of the Ultimate characters will continue across several titles, including Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Wolverine, throughout February.

Marvel unveiled the covers and synopses for the upcoming Ultimate Universe issues. Ultimates #9 will arrive on February 5, while Ultimate Spider-Man #14 will debut on February 12. Ultimate Black Panther #13 and Ultimate Wolverine #2 hit shelves on February 19, followed by Ultimate X-Men #12 on February 26. The stakes have grown exponentially with the Maker’s imminent return to the Ultimate Universe. “As his Council struggles to maintain their control, the heroes of this once-doomed world will face their greatest challenges yet,” Marvel teases.

Marvel’s upcoming February issues will feature the debut of Ultimate Luke Cage in Ultimates #9; the Sorcerer Supreme’s mysterious alliance with Wakanda in Ultimate Black Panther #13; Peter and Harry’s brutal fight against Kraven the Hunter in Ultimate Spider-Man #14; Armor and her mutant band’s showdown with the Shadow King in Ultimate X-Men #12; and a dark test for the Maker’s Ultimate Weapon in Ultimate Wolverine #2.

Written by Deniz Camp, with art by Chris Allen, Ultimates #9 will feature Taurin Clarke and Inhyuk Lee’s Variant cover in addition to Dike Ruan’s main cover. Marvel’s description reads, “LUKE CAGE AND THE ULTIMATE PRISON BREAK! Stormbreaker and innovative artist Chris Allen joins Deniz Camp to bring us the history and the future of Luke Cage! Spider-Man isn’t the only success story of Ultimates 1.0. Meet the man who has been quietly sabotaging the Maker’s Council from behind bars!”

Jonathan Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man #14 arrives with the art and cover of Mark Checchetto. “SPIDER-MAN VERSUS KRAVEN! In Christopher Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio’s eagerly anticipated Ultimate Wolverine #2, “Colossus, Omega Red, and Magik put the Ultimate Wolverine to the test by seeing how well he handles the Opposition, a group fighting for mutant liberation!”

Peach Momoko’s Ultimate X-Men #12 will have “Maystorm lead her team of masked mutants in a climactic battle against Shadow King! But the confrontation leads to a huge rift between best friends Maystorm and Armor.”

The Ultimate Universe titles will arrive in comic book shops throughout February 2025, beginning with Ultimates #9 on February 5.
