[[{“value”:”

DC’s Trinity have finally revealed their true strength along with their very first adventure.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #30 brings readers back to the events of 2017’s Wonder Woman Annual #1, which brought the current iteration of DC’s Trinity together to investigate a tragic murder on Themyscira. As it turns out, the truth behind the crime lies with the villainous duo of Dolos, the Duke of Deception, and Apate, the Goddess of Trickery. Soon enough, a battle between the Trinity and their newfound foes breaks out, the outcome of which all lies with which side claims Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. Though they are up against literal gods, the Trinity proves to be the ultimate victors, as the genuinely heroic bond they share is more than enough to overcome even the worst of evils.

The trio of heroes colloquially known as the DC’s Trinity consists of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, who have long been the most prominent characters the brand has to offer. Over the years, numerous titles have explored the relationship that the three share, including 2003’s Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman: Trinity by Matt Wagner and both the 2008 and 2016 runs of Trinity, which amassed 52 and 22 issues, respectively. DC’s Trinity has also inspired numerous spin-off groups and successors.

The Duke of Deception is one of the oldest villains in the wider DC Comics mythos, with his first appearance in William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter’s “The God of War” from the pages of 1940’s Wonder Woman #2. Across every iteration, the Duke of Deception, or Dolos, has been a malevolent figure concerned only with his sinister endeavors. These efforts frequently find him in opposition to his fellow Olympians and their descendants, including both Wonder Woman and her nemesis — Ares.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #30 marks the first appearance of Apate in the pages of DC Comics. In classic Greek mythology, Apate is the daughter of Nyx, the personification of night, and acts as the classification and goddess of deceit. In mythology, Apate is called upon by Hera, Queen of the Olympians and wife to Zeus, to help take revenge on the Theban princess Semele, who bore Zeus’ son and god of wine and revelry, Dionysus. Though this is Apate’s first appearance in DC Comics, the character has made numerous appearances in the pages of various Marvel Comics, including her most recent and seemingly last in 2024’s Immortal Thor #14 by Al Ewing and Jan Bazaldua.
