Superstar comic book artist, and former Marvel Editor-in-Chief (and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment), Joe Quesada, is launching his own comic book company, Amazing Comics, and he is going to be producing his comic books through an international joint deal between Mad Cave Studios and the Belgian comic book company giant, Dupuis.
Quesada announced the arrangement at a Mad Cave Studios panel at Comic-Con International at San Diego, where Quesada produced an exclusive SDCC preview comic book of the first Amazing Comics title, Disciple: Quarto.
10 Best Mad Cave Studios Comics, Ranked
While DC and Marvel focus on superheroes, Mad Cave Studios tackles every other genre, producing fantastic sci-fi, fantasy and horror comics.
What is the first project from Amazing Comics?
The opening project from Quesada’s new company, which is based out of his home in Idaho (leading to Quesada amusingly bragging about Amazing Comics being Idaho’s #1 Comic Book Company) is called Disciple, which is co-written and penciled by Quesada, with co-writer Charles Dorfman, inker Wade von Grawbadger, colorist Richard Isanove, and letterer Joe Caramagna. The project is described as as “unique and captivating reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet that blends classic literature with modern storytelling.”
Again, as noted, Quesada produced a preview copy of the comic at the convention. He also previewed some more art from the issue on the Amazing Comics website.
10 Comic Writers Who Redefined Iconic Marvel Characters
Marvel’s best comic writers, from Louise Simonson to Jonathan Hickman, redefined the best Marvel Comics characters and shaped their stories for years.
In his Substack newsletter, Quesada pointed out that when he resigned from Marvel in 2022, he hinted at his next direction with his closing signoff:
My family and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Without your love and support, we wouldn’t have been able to go on this crazy adventure, and I hope you join us on our next one.
I promise you, it’s going to be AMAZING!
In the press release announcing Amazing Comics, Quesada discussed Disciple a little:
The true origin of Disciple came about when I met Charles Dorfman, a talented writer with a passion for graphic storytelling. Charles pitched an adaptation of Hamlet, which sparked a creative journey that led to the unique version of Disciple we have today. This project blends Shakespearean elements with contemporary genres, creating a rich, mythological world for our readers to explore that begins as a prequel to the original, set in a whole new world.
You can follow Quesada’s newsletter, and the Amazing Comics website, for more information about Quesada’s new company, including any possible future titles by other creators other than Quesada.
