EXCLUSIVE: Old Man Spider-Man Travels to the Past to Face Two Villains
[[{“value”:”
Spider-Man thought that he had come out of retirement to save New York City, but now even MORE time has passed, and things are much worse than they ever were before, and it is up to Spider-Man to once again be the one to save everyone, even if he is an even older man right now. His mission is to travel back in time on a mysterious mission to save the future, and in this CBR exclusive preview of next week’s Spider-Man: Reign 2 #2, we see what Peter does first when he gets to the past!
Spider-Man: Reign 2 #2 is from writer/artist Kaare Andrews, working with colorist Brian Reber (and coloring some of the book by himself), and letterer Joe Caramagna, and picks off from where the first issue left off, where Peter had been trapped in a virtual reality world for years after he had saved New York City from Venom and the WEBS force field that trapped New York citizens within the city as fodder for the symbiotes. When Spider-Man destroyed the force field, he also inadvertently freed some prisoners, and one of them, Wilson Fisk, has gone on to become the Mayor of New York, and now the WEBS force field is back, and it is the only thing protecting New York from oblivion, as there are bodies piled up outside the city. A mysterious young cat hero, dubbed Kitty-Cat, freed Peter from the virtual reality world (where he was happily married to Mary Jane, despite her dying in the real world), and brought him to Norman Osborn, who sent Peter (and Kitty-Cat) to the past to help save the world.
Is Spider-Man: Reign II Really Necessary?
Marvel’s original Spider-Man: Reign divided fans over the quality and direction of the story. Is a sequel to such a questionable story necessary?

31 Days of Halloween: Spider-Man: Reign
Spider-Man: Reign was undeniably controversial, but it blended heroes and horror to make something wholly unique.
In the preview pages, Old Man Peter and Kitty-Cat are disoriented upon arriving in the past, but then after he smells the old smells of New York City (like PIZZA!), Peter realizes that this might mean he is in a time when Mary Jane is still alive, and he rushed off to go find her. Instead, he ends up in their old apartment, and someone else is living there. While he is confused, two of Spider-Man’s classic super-villains, the Vulture and Beetle attack, and kill the resident of the apartment.
Peter is disturbed, and attacks them, demanding to know where Mary Jane. You’ll have to wait until next week to get Spider-Man: Reign 2 #2 to see what is up with Vulture and Beetle being so bloodthirsty, and whether Old Man Peter is in the right time period or not!
