EXCLUSIVE: Deadpool and Wolverine Clash With an Old Marvel Toy Tie-In Hero

[[{“value”:”

The following contains spoilers for Deadpool Team-Up #2on sale next week

Rob Liefeld’s farewell to both Marvel and his creation, Deadpool, continues next week as Liefeld continues to celebrare the oddity of the Marvel Universe by having Deadpool and Wolverine clash with one of the most obscure Marvel toy tie-in character, Crystar the Crystal Warrior, in this CBR exclusive preview of next week’s Deadpool Team-Up #2.

Deadpool Team-Up #2 is from writer/artist Rob Liefeld, inker Chance Wolf, colorist Juan Manuel Rodriguez, and letterer Joe Sabino, and follows last month’s team-up between Deadpool and Dragonlord, one of the most obscure Marvel superheroes ever (in that he only made a single appearance in the early 1980s), as Deadpool helps Dragonlord find some dragon eggs so that Dragonlord can take back control of his people from an upsurper. Wolverine joined in on the fun, and the heroes ended up in Weirworld, where they met Crystar at the end of the first issue.

Crystar was a Marvel tie-in toy character from the 1980s, but unlike Transformers and G.I. Joe, he was actually a Marvel creation that the comic book company then tried to license into a toyline (as opposed to doing a comic book based upon an existing toyline, like Transformers and G.I. Joe). Therefore, Marvel owns all of the rights to Crystar, and he can crossover with Deadpool and Wolverine, despite Crystar barely appearing in any comic books since his original series finished in the mid-1980s.

Marvel’s Deadpool Has Made Several Appearances in DC Comics – Here’s How

Deadpool’s popularity has allowed him to transcend copyright laws and appear within DC Comics thanks to three parody characters.

In the preview page, we see Crystar’s menacing face grimace at Deadpool and Wolverine, as they reflect in his shiny crystal face.

Wolverine and Crystar then clash with each other in a scene that looks like Liefeld is paying homage to Wolverine’s first clash with Cable back in Liefeld’s days on The New Mutants.

Meanwhile, Dragonlord naturally wants to break the fight up, but Deadpool warns him about Wolverine’s berserker rage, and how it wouldn’t be prudent to tr to break up a Wolverine fight once the Canadian mutant has gotten going. How the Crystar/Wolverine fight concludes will be revelaed next week in Deadpool Team-Up #2!
