Donald Duck Becomes Wolverine in New Marvel Story

[[{“value”:”

Two comic book icons have just collided in spectacular fashion as Donald Duck officially becomes a new breed of Wolverine.

What If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 finds the city of Duckburg thrown into abject chaos by the malevolent machinations of Pete-Skull and his marauding minions. Fortunately, Duckburg has plenty of heroes willing to fight on its behalf, including Mickey-Hawkeye. As capable as Mickey-Hawkeye might be, he knows that this mission calls for his old ally Donald-Wolverine, who only needs to be reminded of his glory days to be convinced to get back on the battlefield.

The story of What If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 itself is loosely inspired by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s classic “Old Man Logan” storyline. As the official synopsis for the title explains, What If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 brings readers to “the near future where chaos rules as Pete-Skull transforms Duckburg into a superhero-less wasteland. Only old Donald Duck can turn the tide, but he’s given up his battling days and prefers naps and his grandma’s apple pie over fighting villains. But when Mickey-Hawkeye comes knocking at the door with Goofy-Hulk at his side, Wolverine-Donald has to make a choice! Will a trip down memory lane change his mind to save the world? Or will the lure of the backyard hammock and a long nap keep him from popping his claws one last time?”

Announced back in April, What If…? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 marks a milestone celebration for both titular characters. While 2024 is the 50th anniversary of Wolverine’s comic book debut, it is also the 90th anniversary of Donald Duck’s original theatrical debut in 1934’s “The Wise Little Hen.” On June 9, the celebration kicked off when Disney announced the release of remastered versions of two of Donald Duck’s most classic shorts, “Crazy Over Daisy” and “Out on a Limb,” as well as the release of a new short, “D.I.Y. Duck,” which was produced by Emmy Award-winner Dorothy McKim and the hand-drawn animation team at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
