The cult classic horror television series Kolchak: The Night Stalker is being revived as a new monster-hunting comic series by Monstrous Books. A crowdfunding project for Kolchak Meets the Classic Monsters is available for backing now, with the project being comprised of three standalone issues.

Throughout the 1970s TV show, reporter Carl Kolchak often faced otherworldly fiends, and the new comics show him taking on the horror icons Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster and the Werewolf in three brand-new stories. All three issues will be available either as standalone comics or as a deluxe hardcover collection on Kickstarter. Other rewards for supporting the campaign include the first-ever officially licensed Kolchak trading cards and a limited-edition challenge coin. Fans can pledge their support for the Kickstarter campaign now until Nov. 9, and rewards are expected to be delivered in Dec. 2025. At the time of writing, the project has already exceeded its $3,500 goal with over $48,000 pledged.

The first story, set in 1983, sees Kolchak join forces with Count Crowley to deal with a ‘pesky werewolf problem’. In 1974, Kolchak encounters Frankenstein’s monster in the second issue, with the solicit teasing that he’s “on a mission to right some wrongs.” Lastly, the third story is set in 1970s New York City as the evil Dracula takes advantage of a liberated Manhattan, with Kolchak determined to put a stop to the vampire.

In Monstrous Books’ press release announcing the Kolchak Meets the Classic Monsters Kickstarter campaign, David Dastmalchian, author of Kolchak Meets the Werewolf and Count Crowley spoke about how the character of Kolchak influenced his own work. “One of the biggest inspirations for my character — Jerri Bartman aka Count Crowley — is Kolchak,” said Dastmalchian.
