Skybound and Hasbro will mark the landmark release of the upcoming G.I. Joe #1 with a special screening of 1987’s G.I. Joe: The Movie. The Los Angeles screening, which arrives the same day the comic debuts in November, will be preceded by a signing with its acclaimed scribe, Joshua Williamson.
The Williamson Signing will happen on November 13, between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., at the comic shop Things from Another World, Universal CityWalk Hollywood. The signing is open to the public and will feature a store-exclusive G.I. Joe #1 variant cover release available for purchase. Exclusive, however, to Skybound Insiders is the 7p.m. screening of G.I. Joe: The Movie at Universal Cinema AMC, Universal CityWalk Hollywood. Tickets will be allocated to existing and new Insider members who sign up between September 10 and October 20. Screening attendees get exclusive surprises and the opportunity to win additional prizes provided by Skybound and Hasbro. A Q&A with Williamson to discuss G.I. Joe #1 will follow the private AMC CityWalk screening of the classic 1987 film.
Why the Transformers Movies Should Use This Comics Run to Reboot the Movie Franchise
The Transformers movies have found new footing but need a direction, and a certain comic run could form the basis for the next great franchise.
Skybound Entertainment VP Arune Singh discussed the innovative Skybound Insiders G.I. Joe event. “G.I. Joe #1is the biggest new comic book launch of the year, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this launch with a first-of-its-kind Joe fan event from Skybound Insiders,” Singh stated. “The teams at Skybound and Hasbro have tons of surprises planned for every fan in attendance to enjoy this iconic film alongside Joshua Williamson and some special guests that’ll have fans yelling, ‘Yo Joe!'”
Hasbro VP Alyse D’Antuono echoed Singh’s sentiments, stating, “We can’t wait for audiences to relive every action-packed moment from G.I. Joe: The Movie and celebrate the release of G.I. Joe #1.” D’Antuono continued, “This experience is completely for the fans – we cannot thank them enough for sharing their passion for G.I. Joe. In working with partners like Skybound, we have evolved the brand and its iconic characters in ways that pay homage to its origins while also providing exciting new twists for generations, new and old. The sky’s the limit on the stories we can tell.”
Hellboy Celebrates His 30th Anniversary With a Blast From the Past
GraphicAudio releases the brand-new audiobook, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D: The Goddess of Manhattan, to mark Hellboy’s 30th anniversary.
Written by Williamson, with art by Tom Reilly, G. I. Joe #1will introduce a bold new vision of the titular team and Cobra to the Energon Universe. Skybound’s description reads, “Conrad Hauser, Codename DUKE, has assembled a special force known as G.I. Joe to battle the rising power of the mysterious COBRA in the aftermath of the Autobots and Decepticons’ arrival on Earth. But the enigmatic Cobra Commander has unleashed the power of Energon like never before!”
As well as the return of staple characters, G.I. Joe #1 teases the first appearance of a brand-new character for the comic that will “change everything you think you know about G.I. Joe…and that’s only half the surprises in store.”
Skybound and Hasbro’s screening of 1987’s G.I. Joe: The Movie will coincide with the arrival of G.I. Joe #1 on November 13, 2024.
