The following contains major spoilers for Outsiders #9, on sale now from DC Comics.
Gotham City’s very own Batwing has just stepped into the middle of DC Comics’ next mystic war – And he’s the one who started it.
After making the trek all the way to a desolate corner of the Yucatán jungle, Lucas Fox and his teammates are ambushed by a band of locals who are none too happy with the sudden appearance of interlopers. Shortly after being captured, Lucas is approached by none other than one of Nabu’s gilded warriors, who offers him a chance to help set things right in their universe. As seen in the pages of Outsiders #9, Lucas is well aware that the supposed Order that Nabu is offering would come at the expense of the rest of the Multiverse, and for that, he has no choice but to side with Chaos instead.

Lucas Fox, the son of longtime Batman ally Lucius Fox, made his DC Comics debut in the pages of 2013’s Batwing #19 by writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Eduardo Pansica. A veritable genius in the realms of engineering and applied sciences, Lucas had hoped to follow in the footsteps of the Dark Knight rather than anyone who might be closer to him. Eventually, Lucas was given the opportunity to do just that when Batman recruited him to become the world’s next Batwing.
The original Batwing, David Zavimbe, was introduced in 2011’s Batman Incorporated #5 by writer Grant Morrison and artist Yanick Paquette. Originally, David was chosen to be the new figurehead of the Mtamba family following the disappearance of Jezebel Jet. This landed David on Batman’s radar, who offered a high-tech Batsuit along with the chance to become the next member of Batman Incorporated by taking on the mantle of Batwing.
Batman: DC Twists a Classic Story and Changes Robin’s Dark Fate
The story of what could have been for Jason Todd finally begins — and it reveals a horrifying side of Gotham City’s Dark Knight.
The supernatural events of Outsiders have spanned multiple locales, engrossing both Lucas Fox’s Batwing and Kate Kane’s Batwoman in their own respective occult mysteries. Of the stories and main characters at hand, Lanzing himself stated that Lucas and Kate had “sort of become these outsider figures in the Bat line.” Lanzing also commented on the introduction of Jakita Wagner’s Drummer to the mix, saying, “[Batwoman and Batwing] already have a dynamic, Luke and Kate, that was established in Detective Comics, and it felt like it was really smart for us to bring in a third character that would allow for that to evolve.”

Batman
Batman is one of the oldest comic superheroes, with nearly a century of comics, TV-shows, films, and video games. The mild-mannered Bruce Wayne becomes Gotham City’s caped crusader, protecting it from villains like The Joker, Killer Croc, The Penguin, and more. Batman is also one of DC comics’ “Big Three” alongside Superman and Wonder Woman, and together the three help keep the earth safe as founding members of the Justice League.
