DC’s Absolute Universe finally introduces the new Lois Lane, and she is the last person Superman wants to meet.
Absolute Superman #1 finds its titular hero pushing back against the corporate overlords and Peacemaker soldiers who have crushed the workers of a Brazilian mine underfoot. While the Man of Steel is more than capable of taking on an army by himself, there is one opposing agent he hadn’t counted on. As it turns out, the new Lois Lane is a far cry from the original, so much so that she is both willing and able to bring the Absolute Superman to his knees.

Lois Lane is one of the oldest and most iconic characters in all of DC Comics, with her first appearance taking place alongside the Man of Steel’s own in Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster’s “Superman, Champion of the Oppressed” from the pages of 1938’s Action Comics #1. An aggressive and intrepid reporter for the Daily Star, the original, pre-Crisis iteration of Lois Lane helped to establish the template not just for her own character going forward, but for much of the Superman mythos as it stands today. Over the years, Lois Lane has played a key role in countless storylines, with future iterations of the character taking more and more prominence in the wider DC Universe.
The reality currently known as the Absolute Universe first came into form following the events of DC’s Dark Crisis, which introduced a new, infantile timeline that was originally dubbed the Elseworld. Though this reality was largely disconnected from the Multiverse, it stood as a ominous sign of things to come. Recently, the events of the DC All In Special saw Darkseid willingly sacrifice himself in order to reach the Elseworld and merge with its native reality as a whole.
An Underrated DC Super Sleuth Is Dead – and It’s All Plastic Man’s Fault
One of DC’s most underrated heroes has just met a tragic end, and even it might not be enough to save Plastic Man from a similar fate.
This gave rise to the Absolute Universe as it stands today, which is replete with grim, brutalist versions of DC’s most iconic heroes and villains. Among these are Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, who watches over Gotham City with a chip on his shoulder and a staggeringly large battleaxe. The Absolute Universe’s Trinity is rounded out with its Wonder Woman, the last of the Amazons who was raised in the literal pits of Hell by the character’s classic foe, the witch Circe.
