The following contains major spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #57, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
One of Spider-Man’s worst enemies won’t let Marvel’s Gang War die, and it’s about to get several major characters killed.
After miraculously managing to attain bail for his many crimes in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #57, Lonnie Lincoln, better known as Tombstone, wastes no time striking back against his enemies. Unfortunately, as of now, Tombstone’s biggest competition is his own daughter Janice, aka Beetle, and the love of her life, Randy Robertson. Worse still, Tombstone is already ahead of both the opposition and his muscles, putting him in a prime position to maintain his spot at the top by taking the life of the person he loves the most.

Introduced in 1987’s Web of Spider-Man #36 by writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk, Tombstone suffered a troubled childhood which pushed him into a life of crime from an early age. By the time Tombstone made his comic book debut, he was already leading his very own gang with a deft hand and an iron grip. Much like other major players in New York City’s criminal underworld, Tombstone has gone through periodic downturns during which the likes of Hammerhead and other Maggia crime lords usurped his place, though the past few years have seen him steadily work his way back to the top.
Most recently, Tombstone’s efforts put him in direct conflict with a plethora of other key underworld figures ranging from Hammerhead and Silvermane to the dreaded Madame Masque. These feuds culminated in Marvel’s Gang War storyline, which brought out nearly every single hero and villain that NYC has to offer for one of the biggest brawls of all time. Over the course of the event, Hammerhead was very nearly murdered by Madame Masque, who positioned herself to take control of the city in its entirety before being ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of various heroes and villains alike.
Moon Knight Is More Powerful Than Marvel Fans Realized
Marvel’s original Moon Knight takes the life of his successor — but what comes next puts him at odds with his own patron god.
While Tombstone was one of the biggest winners by the time the dust kicked up by Marvel’s Gang War had settled, his daughter was one of its biggest losers. Not only had Janice’s relationship with Randy been nearly irreparably damaged, but both she and her father had proven to one another that their personal ties didn’t make up for any professional grievances. As such, Tombstone has set his sights on Janice’s budding criminal empire — and it doesn’t seem like there is much hope for them to reconcile before the situation becomes lethal.

Spider-Man
Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics’ most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man’s most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character’s lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O’Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.
Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he’s changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
