BOOM! Studios New Power Rangers Timeline Rewrites Comic Book History for the Worse

[[{“value”:”

The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers Prime #1, on sale now from BOOM! Studios.

BOOM! Studios’ new Power Rangers epic proves how much worse off the world would be if the Eltarian Invasion went the other way.

Power Rangers Prime #1 brings readers to a shocking new vision of the heroes’ world, one in which humanity is far from determining its own destiny. As it turns out, this Earth is not led by any individual efforts or collective agreements between human leaders. Instead, this world is led by the Eltarian Empire who came down from the stars in the name of complete and total conquest, and who crushed any and all who opposed them, including the Power Rangers.

The Eltarian War storyline was one of the biggest of BOOM! Studios’ entire Mighty Morphin Power Rangers epic. Officially kicked off in the pages of 2021’s Mighty Morphin #13 by Ryan Parrott and Marco Renna, the Eltarian War saw Zordon’s old ally Zartus lead the Eltarian Empire in an attempt to conquer Earth when more benevolent means of taking hold of the planet fell flat. This led to an explosive series of battles that shook the franchise to its core, and that ultimately left the Eltarian Empire on the back foot in the face of not just the Power Rangers, but their allies and usual enemies alike.

Power Rangers Prime #1 marks the beginning of a whole new era for the franchise, one which finds the eponymous heroes having been relegated to little more than myth. Instead of the Power Rangers, it is the VR Troopers who stand as this world’s premier superhero team. This not only opens the door for all manner of other Saban properties to show up as the series continues, it creates a direct link between the Power Rangers and VR Troopers that had previously only been seen all the way back in 1995’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/VR Troopers mini-series from Marvel Comics.
