Star Trek Fans Rejoice: George Takei Announces New Comic

[[{“value”:”

Star Trek fans have some new comic book material to look forward to, as George Takei is set to release a new graphic memoir in July 2025. The book, titled It Rhymes With Takei, is co-authored by Steven Scott and Justin Eisinger with art by Harmony Becker.

The memoir comic builds on the success of Takei’s previous graphic novel, They Called Us Enemy. Whereas that release detailed his experiences as a Japanese American internment camp survivor during World War II, It Rhymes with Takei will provide insight into Takei’s decision to come out as a gay man later in his life, at 68 years old. The intimate premise provides fans of Takei’s work with his most personal story yet, recounting his early life, romances, and fear of being outed during a times that were less welcoming to members of the LGBTQIA+ communities. The memoir also reflects on the loss of friends to AIDS and the joy of finding love with his husband, Brad Altman.

In addition to his queer journey, the graphic memoir aims to emphasize the intersection of personal and political narratives. As followers of Takei’s social media presence and continued works beyond Stark Trek will know, the actor is extremely politically outspoken, so his shedding light on the challenges he faced while advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights should come as no surprise.

Takei’s new work will team him up with Top Shelf Productions once again, previously publishers of the Sulu actor’sThey Called Us The Enemy. Top Shelf Productions is known for its focus on graphic novels and collections that highlight diverse voices and innovative storytelling, making them the perfect fit for such a project.

It Rhymes With Takei is already available for preorder for $29.99 at major retailers, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
