DC Vertigo Is Returning

DC Comics has announced that it will revive its Vertigo imprint at this year’s New York Comic Con. A beloved creator-owned series by James Tynion IV will lead the relaunch.
The Nice House By The Sea, the second cycle of Tynion’s The Nice House on the Lake, will shift from being a DC Black Label project to being the first new Vertigo book launching the imprint. Originally launched in 1993, the Vertigo imprint was made to publish comics with mature themes that did not fit the restrictions of DC’s main comics continuity line. Popular titles from the imprint include The Sandman, Hellblazer, Preacher and Y: The Last Man. DC Vertigo was previously shuttered in 2020, resulting in some of its titles being moved to its successor, the DC Black Label. The Nice House By The Sea #1 was originally slated for a release in July 2025, but it remains to be seen if the title switching to DC Vertigo impacts the release date.
X23: Wolverine Solo Series Returns in New Marvel Preview
X-23 returns in a new solo series from Marvel which will see the trained assassin take on the mantle of Wolverine and fight mutant oppressors.
Bleeding Cool previously reported that DC would revive Vertigo, and the website also claims that the 2020 shuttering of the imprint was because of DC’s former President Pamela Lifford wanting to shift the publisher away from using imprints. Now that Lifford has resigned, DC is shifting its focus back to Vertigo to publish its ongoing mature series. The DC Black Label imprint, which was seen as the successor of Vertigo, generally only prints short, limited-run comics. Bleeding Cool also reported that “DC and Warner Bros. executives [are] nostalgic for what Vertigo used to bring the company.”
In addition to the news that The Nice House series would be switching over to DC Vertigo for its second cycle, DC also shared exciting news about The Sandman Universe joining the imprint’s revival. DC originally launched The Sandman Universe in 2018 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman and DC Vertigo’s 25th anniversary. The Sandman Universe began with a titular one-shot story in 2018, picking up after DC’s Dark Nights: Metal crossover event. Each of the comics is overseen by Gaiman and written by new creative teams for DC.

Marvel announces a special new reprint of Daredevil: Born Again along with other stories featuring Captain America, Fantastic Four, and Black Panther.
All the series in The Sandman Universe follow a story thread that was introduced in the one-shot that launched the line, with titles including Dan Watters’ Lucifer and Simon Spurrier’s John Constantine, Hellblazer. After DC shut down Vertigo in 2020, its Sandman Universe titles switched over to DC Black Label and became limited series, including James Tynion IV’s Nightmare Country. Now, going forward with Vertigo, The Sandman Universe may return to ongoing monthly publication, although no new titles have been confirmed at this time.
DC’s Vertigo Imprint will return with the launch of The Nice House By The Sea in 2025.
