One of Wolverines Darkest Enemies Just Left Behind a Horrifying Legacy

[[{“value”:”

The following contains major spoilers for Venom War: Wolverine #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Wolverine just saved the life of the heir to the legacy of one of his most horrifying enemies — and he doesn’t even know it.

Venom War: Wolverine #2 brings readers to the once-quiet town of Lastport, Maine, where the titular hero is facing off against a roving band of Zombiotes that have come under the control of the malevolent Keene Burke. While Wolverine is more than happy to put a permanent end to the threat, he never imagined that it would continue to live on in the shadows. Flynn, the same son who denounced his abusive father just before Keene’s death, kept the decapitated head of his not-so-dearly departed dad. What’s more, he has subjected himself to its posthumous bite in the hopes of carrying on this newfound family tradition.

Venom War: Wolverine is set amidst the wider backdrop of Marvel Comics’ ongoing Venom War crossover event. Venom War itself centers around the ongoing battle between Eddie Brock and his son, Dylan, both of whom are convinced they need to keep the other away from the Venom symbiote to prevent a universal cataclysm in the near future. As such, both Eddie and Dylan have assembled their own symbiote armies to join in the fight for the future of the Marvel Universe.

The wild, cannibalistic Zombiote strain of symbiotes that have swarmed New York City and beyond were cultivated and unleashed by the villainous future iteration of Eddie Brock known as Meridius. One of several future versions of Eddie, Meridius has spent countless years honing his powers and planning his ascension. Of course, this has come at the expense of his fellow Kings in Black, not to mention thousands of New Yorkers now besieged by his grotesque creations.

A New War Between Wolverine and Spider-Man Begins

The Spider-Man of 2099 is going to war with the most powerful version of Wolverine that fans have ever seen and their fight will determine everything.

Wolverine is just one of dozens of Marvel superheroes who have been caught up in Venom War, largely thanks to the wider Zombiote threat it has introduced. As of now, She-Hulk, the Shocker, and Overdrive stand as some New Yorkers’ only line of defense against the Zombiote swarm. Though the trio has taken refuge in one of the city’s many bars that cater to costumed criminals and the like, they have also found themselves staring down a grotesquely reincarnated Boomerang, all while being left with nowhere to run.

Wolverine

Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180, where he battled the Jade Giant to a standstill, before joining Marvel’s X-Men in 1975. Since then, the short-tempered berserker with unbreakable claws has proven himself as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. The mutant hero was also the backbone of the X-Men film franchise, which ran from 2000 to 2020, and critics consider his solo film, Logan, one of the best superhero movies ever made.

Known as an unstoppable tank who can cut through anything, Wolverine isn’t technically one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes but he’s one of the deadliest characters on their roster. Even villains like Magneto and the Juggernaut have learned to be wary of Wolverine’s claws.
