Acclaimed Spider-Man Writer Unites Marvel’s Most Unlikely Duos

Prolific Marvel Comics writer J. Michael Straczynski will write a series of one-shot stories that have some of Marvel’s most unlikely duos team up. Marvel teases the one-shots will be “timeless and rousing stories featuring some of today’s most beloved and talked about Marvel characters”.
Straczynski is joined by a superstar lineup of artists for the one-shot sagas, including Will Robson, Bernard Chang, Elena Casagrande, German Peralta, Juan Ferreyra and Phil Noto. The team-up tales will kick off with Straczynski and Robson’s Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon, where Doom does the one thing he never wants to do: ask for a favor. Rocket Raccoon will find mischief, miscommunication and an emotional journey across time in the Mighty Marvel Way waiting for him in Latveria. Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon #1 goes on sale Jan. 22.

In addition to the full lineup of team-up stories which includes characters like Captain America, Ghost Rider, Spider-Man and Agatha Harkness, Marvel also revealed a special promo piece featuring all the featured characters by Leinil Francis Yu which will be available as a variant cover for Doctor Doom & Rocket Raccoon #1. The comics publisher also revealed the covers for the first three one-shots, including Captain America & Volstagg #1, which sees war break out in the Nine Realms and Volstagg recruiting Steve Rogers to help him end it.
Straczynski Finds the Fun in Marvel’s Unlikely Pairings
In Marvel’s press release announcing Straczynski’s one-shots, he teased some of the upcoming adventures and his joy in writing them. “I like to go where the fun is, and the idea of putting together Marvel characters who had either never been paired before, or only minimally, seemed like it would be a ton of fun, and it was even more of a blast than I anticipated,” Straczynski said.
